#10 Maura Power, G
#22 Alaina Walker, G/F
#35 Kerry Higgins, F
#40 Theresa Miller,C
BREWSTER
Liz Minella, G, #34
Lauren Quattrocchi, G, #24
Marisa Delzio, G, #15
Vania Simpri, F, #32
Emily Tapio, F, #11
End of the 1st quarter: Albertus Magnus 18, Brewster 6 — Magnus has shown all its strength and experience here early, scoring 12 points and forcing two TO before the Bears scored a basket. Alaina Walker has eight points and two blocks in the quarter. She’s also guarding Emily Tapio, Brewster’s leading scorer, who is 0 for 4 so far. Marisa Delzio has kept Brewster in it by making a pair of 3’s. Fellow freshman guard Lauren Quattrocchi is on the bench, however, with three fouls. Theresa Miller has been a presence inside for the Falcons. She has four points, two rebounds and a block.
5:32 left in the 2nd quarter: Albertus Magnus 21, Brewster 8 — Brewster seems to have settled down. The Bears are playing the game now and have gotten off some decent shots. A couple were blocked by Miller. A few others have been missed. If they can make some opne shots, they can get back in it.
3:27 left in the 2nd quarter: Albertus Magnus 26, Brewster 12 — Liz Minella just hit back to back hoops off feeds by Delzio to for a Magnus timeout. Delzio has really played well. She has six points and a couple assists and seems to be capable of sticking with Felicia DaCruz on D.
HALFTIME: Albertus Magnus 32, Brewster 15 — Alaina Walker has 11 points and two blocks. Theresa Miller has six points, five rebounds and four blocks. Marisa Delzio has seven points for Brewster.
End of the 3rd quarter — Albertus Magnus 48, Brewster 22 — Looks like Magnus will empty its bench after a late 13-2 to close the quarter. Walker now has 21 points. Power hit another 3 during the period, as did DaCruz.
FINAL: Albertus Magnus 57, Brewster 38 — Alaina Walker scored 21 points and Maura Power added 12, all of them on 3’s. Magnus played the entire fourth quarter with four starters on the bench. The only one who played was Kerry Higgins.
Emily Tapio led Brewster with 17 points, 10 of which came in the fourth.
Magnus will meet Lakeland at 5:15 on Sunday in what should be a heckuva final.

Three teams from the same League in the finals… That’s shows the strength of Irvington, Nanuet, Magnus…..not to mention Pearl River who also made the CC.
Good game for AM. Brewsters young team will be a real contender in the coming years. They’re fast and can shoot. They just seem to need more experience. Good luck next year.
Coach McGuinness showed the class act he is by removing the starters after the 3rd Quarter. He didn’t wait for Brewster and let his bench play the rest of the way. Good to see you in there Taylor!
GO FALCONS!!!!
Magnus played a great game, couldn’t miss in the 1st quarter and Alaina Walker is a terrific talent that hit some her jumpers. It was obvious she was not going to be denied this year, not on this night at least.
What you saw out there late WAS Brewster’s bench, which happens to have two injured players that could not come in and a group of JV players so young, they needed some experienced players out there to keep it going as Coach Schukin was not about to serve up these JV kids. The Brewster starters are probably the same age and have as much experience as the Magnus bench.
The main players for Brewster are a sophomore and two frosh, with another freshman that comes in off the bench as the sixth man, and another sophmore that gets minutes. There were lineups with three freshman and a sophomore on the floor for stretches during the game, for what it’s worth.
Losing a top scorer in Lauren Quattrocchi really early to foul trouble ended even what were low odds for a win as she is excellent at sharing the ball and getting it where it needs to be to create scoring opportunities for her team, as well as a hard working defender.
Brewster brought a lot of fans, a mascot, and the entire school was energized by this young team. They packed the gym for the end of season games that led to getting a new banner for the school gym, co-champions of the league with Lakeland. They showed up and supported their team through the post season, right into the County Center. We saw some good teams ushered out of there in one-sided games this year, boys and girls, and including our kids. They have nothing to be ashamed of.
Correction: Delete “some” in front of jumpers. Was going to say hit some jumpers and attacked off the dribble.
Well said.
If Joe McGuinness had waited for the Brewster coach to sub he would have passed of old age.
Padding stats is about the only reason for such nonsense. Alaina Walker and friends gave Brewster’s bigs a lesson in defense. I just hope the inflated stats don’t cause another player a spot on the all tourney team.
Brewsterfan – enough with the age thing, you’re far from the only team that has brought underclasswomen to the CC.
Brewster has talent and they are young which is still no excuse for behaving poorly. You might try giving your opponent a hand up just ONCE after a hard foul.
No excuses here from this Brewter fan – Albertus was clearly the better team then Brewster and they played great – they are extremely well coached and they showed that tonight – Congrats to the Brewster girls and good luck to the Magnus girls against Lakeland on Sunday – the brewster girls played strong and did not give up but they did not work thier ofense and there was a little too much one on one going on out there but they still stuck together.
As to “County Center’s” remarks – you are a knucklehead and have no clue what you are talking about – Brewster played a lot of their kids tonight and there was no stat padding going on and there was no bad behavior on Brewster’s part and the palyers were giving eachother hands up after hard fouls on both ends – the old age thing going on here is your lack of brain matter not allowing you to perceive what actually happened on the court tonight. The only thing i will agree with you about is Joe McGuinness is a great coach and i agree that he could have kept Alania in and ran the score up and he did not but i bet his main reason for taking her out was to reduse risk of an injury in game that they had already had won – that’s what a smart coach would do and that’s what he did, but you have no basktball ball IQ as we can tell by your commments so you would see it through a knucklehead brain … thus coming to a completly incorrect conclusion
5 out of Magnus’s 10 players are sophomores.
Our team isnt all vets either, Brewsterfan.
If you’ve ever gone to an AM game at their school, you’ll notice that their bench, along with 4 or 5 or however many coaches they have, is set up behind the baseline which extends out to the basket. It really serves to intimidate the opponent when they are shooting at that basket. Does anyone know why they don’t sit behind the sideline like their opponent does? If it’s because of lack of room for the score table to be set up in the middle behind the sideline, I’m not buying it.
just wondering – You have got to be kidding right? The bench is set up where it is because of the way the gym is set up. The only entrance to the gym forces people to walk along the sideline. Many people show up right at game time or late to the game. It makes no sense to have people walking in front of a bench during game action. If you really think the bench is set up where it is for intimidation purposes you are really not thinking. If anything, its a major disadvantage for Albertus coaches. They can barely communicate with the girls when they are on the other side of the floor. Albertus bit the bullet and took the baseline bench to accommodate the visitors and let them have the sideline bench. But, as usual, people complain about the fairness of Albertus without thinking. It’s just sad. Really. The achievements of the girls on the team is overshadowed by idiot parents complaining about this nonsense.
Also, I’m so sick and tired of hearing about how many coaches the girls have. What difference does it make? If you are going to say it’s an unfair advantage, then again you aren’t thinking. It’s just sad when people use these blogs to vent their “sour grapes” Plus these coaches get paid barely anything ( not even sure if the assistants get paid) . So please, before you come on here and complain about Albertus, use your head.
Falcon,
Why in your comment do you immediately point out that all of the coaches barely get paid? No one was talking about money here. My reason for mentioning the amount of coaches in addition to the players on the bench is that having such a huge bench right under the basket is a distraction to the opponent. It’s no different for the coach that is on the sideline trying to communicate with players when they are down on the other side of the court either, so don’t even go there. Did I question the achievements of any player on the team? Obviously they proved themselves last night and all season for that matter.
The better team won and it wasn’t even close. AM could have won by 40 or 50 if they wanted to.
Brewster had a great year but thay are simply not as good as AM.
Magnus was clearly the better team. Brewster had one big girl killing herself inside trying to rebound and help on defense, but unfortunately their other big girl was out of position the entire first three quarters and offered no rebounding or defensive help. Coach should have sat that player in the end, not reward her with a stats padding quarter. Magnus girls were a class act our there along with their coach not running up the score. Brewster’s young team did handle themselves well even with the game out of hand. I’m sure it will be a good learning experience for them and their coach.
