The game will start in about 30-35 minutes. This will be the third time they’ve met this season. Irvington won both meetings and has won four of five the last two seasons.
So who does everyone think will win?
Remember you can watch the game on Mogulus here.
Here are the starters:
IRVINGTON
#13 Riley Harrington, G
#10 Lisa Bucci, G
#4 Marley Giddens, F
#14 Tara Gabelman, F
#20 Gillian Morley, C
NANUET
#21 Lauren Kahn, G
#15 Christine Brezovsky, G
#24 Nikki Saponaro, G/F
#25 K.C. Jentzen, F
#34 Amy Delva, C
5:14 first quarter: Irvington 4-2 — Nanuet just called a 30-second TO. Hang tight. We’re working on the Mogulus connection.
End of the first: Nanuet 19, Irvington 12 — Lauren Kahn has six points and two assists. Tara Gabelman has six points and two rebounds.
4:21 left in the second quarter: Nanuet 21, Irvington 16 — Irvington just called a timeout. Tara Gabelman just scored a couple baskets and now has 10 points, but Nanuet has shut down all the Bulldogs’ other options. K.C. Jentzen has eight points and five rebounds.
2:32 left in the second quarter: Nanuet 23, Irvington 21 — Timeout Nanuet. Riley Harrington tied it on a 3-pointer but Lauren Kahn just found Amy Delva to put Nanuet back up.
HALFTIME: Nanuet 25, Irvington 22 — Very fast-paced half but a ton of turnovers. It’s seems like every other play is a travel. Still, the teams are very closely matched. Gabelman has 10 points but has been whistled for two fouls. Irvington continues to search for a second option. Marley Giddens is the next leading scorer with five points. For Nanuet, the scoring has been much more balanced. Jentzen has eight points and six boards. Kahn has six points and four assists. Amy Delva has been a nice surprise. She has six points despite playing much of the half with two fouls.
2:21 left in the third quarter: Nanuet 31, Irvington 29 — Tara Gabelman picked up her third and fourth fouls in three seconds two minutes into the third quarter. I thought the Bulldogs, who trailed by four at the time, may be toast. But freshman Marley Giddens has kept them in it. She has four points and has already picked off six steals in the game. Lisa Bucci also answered a long 3 by Christine Brezovsky with one of her own.
End of the third quarter: Nanuet 33, Irvington 29 — It’ll be interesting to see whether Gina Maher goes back with Tara Gabelman with four fouls. She hasn’t done it yet, but it’s getting late.
5:08 left in the fourth quarter: Nanuet 43, Irvington 33 — 10-4 Nanuet here in the fourth. Jentzen had two quick baskets before she left with four fouls. Gabelman is back in but Irvington is still fading.
4:05 left: Nanuet 44, Irvington 36 — Tara Gabelman just fouled out. She was whistled for an over the back call. This game has become littered with whistles. Amy Delva just fouled too. It’s a foulfest.
2:29 left: Nanuet 46, Irvington 37 — It’s getting late to be down nine points. Nanuet has the ball as well.
FINAL: Nanuet 55, Irvington 44 — Nanuet wins its first gold ball since 2006. You really have to give them in inordinate amount of credit. The Golden Knights beat Briarcliff and Irvington, the top two seeds. Also, no more griping in Nanuet about Carlos Fidalgo. Was he ever the right man for the job? Fidalgo beat two teams he went 0-3 against during the regular season.
K.C. Jentzen finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Lauren Kahn scored 10 points, but was a terror on defense. She had 10 points, five assists and four steals.

hey when are you going to post your predictions for tomorrows games??
Upset week continues!!! Is the 3 ref system good or bad for the game?
Congrats to Nanuet & the Kahn family
I was shocked with how poor Irvington played tonight. Way too many turnovers for a section final. Both teams bring back their core next year. Should be interesting…..damn!

Now the Irvington Coach is on the hot seat!
BUCCI AND GABLEMAN FLOP OUT WHAT A HORROR SHOW
I don’t think Gina is on the hot seat by any stretch. Sometimes teams just play poorly. Nanuet didn’t do anything extra special to confuse them. Irvington simply killed themselves. We have to remember that these are just hs kids and games like this will happen.
Way to go Nanuet you deserve it! Great job Irvington you should be proud too!
WHAT HAPPEN??????????????????????????????????????????????????????
A FAN_- proud of what
Mike Hoops – Proud of being a great team and getting to the FINALS and playing great! I’m sure there are many class B teams that wished they had gone as far as the finals.
First, congrats to Nanuet on a great game and a terrific season they should be proud. I am also proud of the way Irvington Girls basketball team has played this year and their dedication. They just lost to a better opponent today. Mike Hoops or anyone else who specifically disrespects young athletes by calling them a flop and taking away from their accomplishments is not understanding the fact that these are not professional athletes but just high school kids.
Good Job Ms Maher and the Bulldogs on a terrific season.
GREAT GAME Nanuet!!!! Congratulations in winning the GOLD BALL. You truly are the BEST in Section 1. Continue your quest and bring home the TITLE!!!!
Great season for the Lady Bulldogs. Unfortunately tonight was not your best game. It has been quite a ride and Gillian Irvington Basketball will not be the same without you. You will be sorely missed next year.
Gary Gabelman – I agree with you -
Congratulations Nanuet Girl’s Basketball on winning the gold ball. Your dedication to the sport and hard work ethic this season have paid off. Your coaches should be commended for getting all of you to play as a team.
Awesome Game and Congratulations Lady Knights of Nanuet. I knew you would do it.
Congratulations Lady Knights and Coach Fidalgo and Coach Carbone! We knew you could do it. We are sorry that our Knight boys, who had such a great season, missed the trip to the County Center with you. We are so proud of how you represented Nanuet. Unfortunately, there had to be a loser and for HOOPS FAN to have to compound that for Irvington is a disgrace. Any team who makes it that far is to be commended no matter what the outcome. You should learn a little class and humility from Mr. Gabeleman. Good season Irvington.
Myself and my daughter have been watching this blog all season and when a 10th grader tells me that Mike Hoops is a A.. H… My first response is the let her know that language like that will not be tolerated in the house and then I think to myself how right she is.
Congratulations to all the athletes who competed in the county Cent win or lose.
Nanuet did a great job tonight aganist a tough team, and the coach and the players should be proud. Good job girls
Coach Fidalgo did a great job it is not an easy task to step into a situation like that and succeed Kudos to him and the girls!! I also think Coach Metcalf should get a shout out as he help build this team!
I didnt leave the commebt at 10:15

I am sure in 5 seconds JOSH can see that wasn’t my IP Address
Sad that someone wanted to make a point and couldn’t use their own name.
I did not say “Proud of What”
Of course, Irvington had a Great season! League Champs and Section Finalist.
Again I am sure in 5 seconds Josh could see I Did NOT make the 10:15 comment and some sad sack used my Nickname
I also didnt make the 9:58 comment
“BUCCI AND GABLEMAN FLOP OUT WHAT A HORROR SHOW”
someone used my nickname for that also I see.
Again Josh could see this in 5 seconds based on IP Address
Mike Hoops is right. The imposter — “mikehoops” or “BDF,” whatever your name is — cut it out. Now. Please go stir up trouble elsewhere.
Great Season by both teams in what was one of the most exciting classes to watch, the crazier thing is next year is only going to be better, with Nanuet, Irvington, and Dobbs Ferry all bringing back many of their players, along with Briarcliff, plus many other teams return alot of players in B as well. Both these teams showed why they deserved to be in the championship, and I know Nanuet will keept their run going, Class B in Section 1 may be the toughest section in the state, and I hope the Golden Knights can bring home a state championship, and I cant wait until the Class B tournament again next year!
nanuet comments during the interview on Channel 12 show that he understands what girls high school basketball stands for. May all of the coaches and fans listen to his words and conduct yourselves in accord. As a Briarcliff parent I can only sya congrats to the Nanuet team on a great championship something the girls will remember forever.
Josh—
Why can I get VS Sports Live “on demand” the Nanuet vs Irvington game?? Every other game is available?
sorry that should read…. Why can’t I get “on demand” for nanuet vs irvington?
gina maher is a class act who is well respected. the girls had a great season. they just had an awful night at the wrong time. they were awesome in the semis. keep on working on you game girls. gina maher i admire you, who have a proven track record, westchester hall of fame, over 300 victories. keep up the great work you do for the kids of irvington
Congrats to lady bulldogs on a fine season !!! Every year you get closer and closer in getting the gold ball . It will happen , lady bulldogs hold your heads up high. 2010 will be your year !!! Lady bulldogs will miss Gillian Morley . She help put Irvington win the last four years !!
Great job Carlos. You took over a position that had many challenges, just surviving this season is a success. You did an incredible job avenging losses against tough teams. Keep doing your thing and don’t stop at the section title, we need another state champ team a Nanuet.
Congrats girls. I have enjoyed watching you compete, you show incredible heart and commitment. You are the type of kids that make teaching and coaching fun. Good luck in the state tourney.
BC Rogers
This league was by far the toughest and most competitive league in the Section and maybe the State. Nanuet wins the Class B Gold Ball and Albertus wins the class A Gold ball. Irvington beat Nanuet twice and Pearl River once and Pearl River split with all three teams during the regular season. And of course all 4 teams made it to the County Center. On any given day any of the 4 could have won the Gold, but, the teams that did got the job done. And by the way Mike(above), Gina Maher has won over 450 games with Coach Moylan a few behind that at Pearl River. We might see all four teams again in the CC next year, but, they’ll be coming from two different leagues.
