Ten days after it lost there to end the regular season, Holy Child rebounded to beat top-seeded RCDS and win the FAA tournament 46-41 yesterday.
My colleague Casey Tolfree was on hand for a comeback performance by the Gryphons and their star. Sophia Aleksandravicius did it all, piling up 30 points, 21 rebounds and five blocks. Teammates Maggie Kelly stuffed the stat sheet, too, with six rebounds, six assists and six steals.
You can read Casey’s story here. She said Holy Child came out in a box and one on Alexandra Osborn-Jones and it helped it build a 16-5 lead. Carolyn Binder and Veronica Roman (25 combined points) were among those who tried to pick up the slack.
For more on the game, please check out the story. The FAA title is a significant win for Holy Child, which had been in strong position but fallen short previously during Aleksandravicius’ career.
