Bad luck can strike at the worst time and it has for Albertus Magnus’ promising forward Meghan Richards (left). The 5-foot-10 junior tore a knee ligament early in the preseason and will be forced to miss the entire 2009-10 season.
If you remember, Richards played significant minutes as a freshman. She eventually found her niche last season as well, serving as a tough rebounder and scorer in the paint and as a deft distributor from the top of the key. Her contributions were key as the Falcons reached the Class A state final in their first season after moving up from Class B. Richards’ best effort came in the state semis, when she had 11 points and 11 boards off the bench.
With two-time Rockland player of the year Alaina Walker gone to St. Bonaventure and fellow starters Maura Power and Theresa Miller also graduated, Magnus will rely on all of its players to account for the losses. Richards was expected to be chief among them.
I hope everyone wishes Meghan a speedy recovery.

She was missed when she left Nanuet for the Falcons and now her heart and hard work will be missed by them as well. Good luck and come back stronger and better next year.
