Tonight’s scores are few, but they include a doozy. Ardsley defeated Byram Hills 41-39 on the strength of a game-winning three-point play by Patty Wootten with 5.6 seconds to play. Wootten then blocked the winning shot on the other end to preserve the victory for the Panthers, who trailed 38-32 midway through the final period.
Here are all of the results:
Croton-Harmon 52, Solomon Schechter 26: At Croton, sophomore Lauren Lopano scored a career-high 16 points and Aly Tuman added 15. Julia Wein scored 16 points for Solomon Schechter.
Edgemont 57, Hackley 47: At Edgemont, Brittni Lai led the Panthers with 21 points. Vlora Rraci added 12 points. Allie Piscina scored 15 points for the Hornets.
Ardsley 41, Byram Hills 39: At Ardsley, Patricia Wootten scored on a turnaround jumper as she was fouled with 5.6 seconds left. The ensuing free throw gave Ardsley a two-point lead. Wootten, who finished with nine points, seven rebounds and four blocks, blocked Byram Hills’ winning shot attempt. Teammate Toni Pilla finished with 16 points. Christina Sardo also had 16 points for Byram Hills on the strength of five 3-pointers.

Hmmm, very interesting score. After all this talk about how great a team Byram Hills is and they lose to a class B school. I guess you guys paid way too much attention to a SCRIMMAGE against Briarcliff that you created a false sense of greatness. It takes a great deal of work to be a great team. Now you know what it will take to be ranked.
BYRAM YOU LOST TO A TEAM LIKE ARDSLEY ITS ALL DOWN HILL NOW!!!!!
Not to long ago I was reading how people were wondering why Byram Hills wasn’t ranked in class A. Hmm, I guess you can see why they aren’t now.
I was one of those asking for some love for BH, they are still 10-2, lost to a 9-2 Ardsley team. Class breakdown doesn’t mean too much, when you have a good team, you have a good team regardless of size. Some of the best basketball teams in the section are in class B. Just not BH day today, but they could make some noise as sectionals roll around.
BTW, i give no meaning to the results of a scrimmage.
ArdsleyWIns – one game does not mean much over the course of a long season – it does not define or deny greatness – every team has it ups and downs. If they were to meet again, BH could very well beat Ardsley by 20. I would not get to happy about a lucky win.
Long season?? season is almost over. Second, I dont think it was lucky at all. We played a great game and the girls worked the butts off. Thirdly, @ Mac16 I don’t think this year will be your year for making noise in the sectionals…maybe next year you will, but not this year in Class A.
FYI Ardsley is an “A” class team
Ardsley is a good team (as their record indicates). BH need not make any excuses. For you BH doubters out there…come watch the rematch this Monday at BH. This team is for real.
@Bobcat this monday we will beat you by 18 or more we had a off day and still won! GO ARDSLEY
Bobcat better have a good game plan for WOOTTEN SHE UNSTOPPABLE GO WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTTEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OPPS! DONT FORGET ABOUT HER HELPERS.
I have read BH may be the team to beat next year. While they may be have a good team class A will remain competitive. See link attached for teams by class / enrollment #’s. Besides Lourdes moving to AA I think the rest remain in class A.

My dominant teams for next season are listed in order of strength.
Pearl River – lose very good PG, strong sophomore class with excellent coach
Brewster – Lose a forward backcourt / star return
Albertus – 4 of 5 starters return post gets stronger with player returning from injury
Peekskill – 2010 graduation has limited impact
Ardsley – Several talented players returning
Byram – lose leading scorer but young team overall
TZ – Strong sophomore class with balanced guard / post palyers
Rye – ?
Anyone I’m missing?
FYI, Byram Hills won over Harrison by ONLY 1 point.
rockball,
That is a pretty good list to start with of competitive teams from next year, but there are a few other teams to add to the list
Poughkeepsie- very good young backcourt, will be better with a year experience, and should still drop to A next year
Beacon-lose katie hallock and Ally rola, but return solid nucleus, and have tremendous incoming class of freshman next year
If I were to rank teams for next year it would probably go
1.Magnus
2.Peekskill
3. Pearl River
4. Brewster
5. Lakeland
6.Poughkeepsie
7.Beacpn
8. Tappan Zee
9. Byram Hills
10T Nyack/Ardsley
This list assumes that no other teams drop to Class A from AA
Lakeland is done next year. Dont they lose their 3 best players?
Lakeland does lose some quality talent but they have a great program, with a great feeder system. They will certainly remain competitive
Ballboy do you really think that Lakeland can remain competive when Jarosz and Pappallardo are gone?? There is no way you can replace that talent in one year,,,probably not in quite a few years.
Next yr BH will be a top 3 (certainly a top 5 team) in the “A”. (Baring injury of course). They may in fact already be in the top 5 this year—we’ll see soon.
coach bye bye,
I did not say I think that they will be a title contender, but I certainly believe they can be a top five team in the section next year. Since my involvement began with the Beacon program four years ago, I have seen the talent that comes through their program, and the cupboard is certainly not bare. They have a very good JV and modified programs this year, and a great feeder program.
Bobcat,
I certainly think that Byram Hills will be a factor next year, but I honestly believe that they need to step up their level of competition. Saying that I know that is complicated with game restrictions, but the only way to reach your potential is to play the best. I have seen Bee Williams and some of the other young players, play the AAU circuit for a while now (mostly against my daughter), they are very solid, and the future is certainly bright at Byram Hills, I just don’t think they are a top 3-5 team next year yet.
Ballboy, u r dead on that BH needs to step up its competition level. and i’m sure we know each other thru the AAU circuit that u refer to. What AAU club are u with?
bobcat,
My daughter used to play for the knights, but we have started an aau team in beacon where my wife and I coach, that she is switching over to now. Don’t take my comments negatively, I like Byram Hills alot for the future. We learned the lesson the hard way at Beacon, when we were 22-3 and lost to Pearl River in the finals, and ever since we do everything in our power, to schedule as difficult as possible, we are not concerned with our regular season record.
Ballboy, no offense taken. The CT Knights? I don’t recall the knights but so many teams. Our coach did the same and started the Armonk Lady Bobcats after playing for the Westchester Hawks for 2 yrs. Good luck to Beacon.
No the Hudson Valley Knights, they are based out of the Poughkeepsie area, but draw kids from all over the hudson valley
Sorry don’t know where that post came from under a different name, I am at a computer at work, did not know other people here also post on this site, but my daughter played for the Hudson Valley Knights, and will be a freshman at Beacon next year
