Update, 2:44 p.m.: Carmel leads 11-9 after one quarter. Sabrina Diaz just made a couple wild layups to push the Rams ahead.
Update, 3:15 p.m.: Carmel leadsd 24-22 after a putback by Brittany Horne beat the buzzer. Mount Vernon will need to pick it up in the second half if it hopes to repeat.
Update, 3:28 p.m.: Mount Vernon is on a 12-2 run and leads 39-32 late in the third quarter.
Update, 3:33 p.m.: Horne just hit a fallaway 3 at the buzzer to end Mount Vernon’s 13-3 run. The Knights will enter the fourth quarter leading 40-35. Horne has 13 points to lead Carmel. Shanyce Stewart has 12 and Sade King has 10 points for Mount Vernon.
Update, 3:36 p.m.: Carmel just took a 42-40 lead with 6:36 to play on a layup by Kim Broccoli. Carmel has now scored the last 10 points.
Update, 3:49 p.m.: Carece Moore just hit a big 3 with about 2:30 remaining. She then added another with 1:43 on the clock, and Mount Vernon now leads 54-46. Carmel called timeout. Finally, Mount Vernon appears to be in good position after what has been a harrowing game.
Update, 3:55 p.m.: A technical on Horne for bouncing the ball led to four Mount Vernon free throws. Dan O’Hare has dipped into his bench now, so Mount Vernon will move on. The Knights lead 59-46 with 44.9 to play.
Update, 4:00 p.m.: Mount Vernon wins 59-49 and will face either Ossining or Ursuline on Wednesday at 8. This will be Mount Vernon’s fourth straight championship game appearance.

If Mount Vernon blows it today, it will be their worst chock job in the last 5 years, and they have had a bunch.

carmel played an amazing game and no one excepted that they can compete with “the top team” but they did and played great. good season girls!
Carmel played an outstanding game and deserved to win. All the critics had no faith and Carmel proved to be the team they have been all season. Despite the loss they challanged Mt. Vernon and everyone was left speechless at halftime. Ossining has a great opportunity to shut up Mt. Vernon and move on to States…since Carmel couldn’t finish it off, Ossining will.
I agree. MV was not very impressive today. They better bring a lot more than that Weds nite. Coach Moore’s daughter bailed her out today with some big shots down the stretch. MV was on the ropes and damn near lost this game. A real good coach doesn’t let that happen. MV was clearly the better team but they dodged a bullet today.
Why does it seems like its MV against Section One everyone wants to see somebody beat them, anybody just not MV. WHY

MV has a better coach than ossining? Says who? She has bigger players, more players and a huge talent pool. Ossining has HEART, and the two best guards in Section 1, Chong and Venuto. Imagine this…..Chong, Venuto and Awerdick (healthy) who would beat them? Coach Ricci gets the maximum from every kid on the team…every kid…Suddenly a motivated Connie Andujar and Taylor have stepped up on defense and a healthy Rupp has found her stride…They are ready to unleash….Hayley we love you you are a trooper talk about heart!
i agree with “i wear maroon” – ossining truely has more heart! they want it more..and will fight for it harder!
MV coach and Oss coach are = good coaches…Both have great relationships with their kids and both want to win…Talent resides on both of the coaches teams…However, the coaches cannot play the game for there players..In the end it will come down to players vs. players.. We need not compare teams..Mount Vernon is good and has been successful for a while (cut them some slack) Oss also has been very successful..it sucks hayley is out but they have still proven themselves.. How can you tell is one team wants it more..MV works hard the dove on the floor they took charges..and so did ossining…For oss it was just one of those games where they didn’t miss much..Anyone could beat anyone on a given night..!! no matter who wins I am proud of both teams
mt vernon coach i agree is a very good coach….never said she wasn’t. She also has alot of class.
We will win a tightly contested game.. Get your tapes and popcorn it is going to be a goodY… I can’t wait.. Mt. V. can’t just play defense when they want to they have to play the whole game..
