With a 10:30 game on Friday morning and possibly another on Saturday that would be played during Gina Maher’s official induction into the New York state basketball Hall of Fame, Irvington doesn’t have too much time to celebrate its state championship. The Bulldogs face a challenging Class B state Federation semifinal against independent school champ Long Island Lutheran, as Brian Heyman wrote in today’s paper.
OK, scratch that. They had a little time, like yesterday afternoon, when the state champs gathered in the gym named for their coach and the school celebrated their achievement, as David Kiarsis wrote today. Principal Scott Mosenthal even let the girls cut the nets down, One Shining Moment style. (That’s Riley Harrington pictured above.)
You can see the large crowd pictured in the photo above, but that should not surprise. Irvington came out in droves to support the girls over the weekend, but no one caught more attention than the guy pictured to the right. If anyone knows his name please post it. I don’t know if he wants to be considered a mascot, but if he does he tops my list for sure.
In fact, in all the years I’ve worked at the paper, this may be my single favorite photo — and it doesn’t even include an athlete, a coach or a play in a game.
Anyway, check back later today for the scouting report on Long Island Lutheran.

The Student’s name is Ronin DeVlin, and he’s become the unofficial school mascot
Corey Devlin is the “Green Man” His twin brother Ronan is right there with him. We love them
Every coach’s dream – A potential conflict of the Federation Finals and induction into the State Hall of Fame. Wow. A trip to Glens Falls is not easy to earn but very well deserved. Congratulations Coach Maher! Good Luck Bulldogs!
i feel that u should interview and make a article on corey and ronan devlin and there green suits…......... now thats an article i would love to read
yes to clarify i am the so called greenman im glad that i am in one of your favorite pictures
The Federation is a waste of time.
Long Island Lutheran declared itself a “B” team. They should be in the “A” bracket.
Goldstein is also in the PSAL B League, which doesn’t mean its a small enrollment. There are 1000 students in the school, which would make it an A teamn in NYSPHSAA.
What ever happens this weekend in Federation it should not take away from Irvington Hs is Ny state champs! End of story.
Irvington has consistently shown that they can play with anybody. Remember Irvington vs Kingston in the Slam Dunk Tourney. They gave the defending AA Champs a great game.
