Below is Brian Heyman’s scouting report on tomorrow’s Class B state regional semifinals. The only thing I would add is that Jessica DeNicola, the 6-foot-3 center, committed to play D-II ball at Molloy College:
What: NYSPHSAA champ Irvington (24-1) vs. NYSAISAA champion Long Island Lutheran (20-3)
When: Friday, 11:45 a.m.
Where: Glens Falls Civic Center
Key players: Irvington — Tara Gabelman 5-10, Sr., F; Riley Harrington 5-3, Sr., PG; Lisa Bucci 5-4, Sr., G; Kelly O’Donnell 5-6, Jr., F; Marley Giddins 5-10, Soph., F/G; Alexis Martins 5-11, Fr., F. Long Island Lutheran — Jessica DeNicola 6-3, Sr., C/F; Paige Kriftcher 5-8, So., G.
Outlook: Long Island Lutheran has four players ranging from 5-foot-10 to 6-3. The 6-3 DeNicola scored 16 in the Crusaders’ 79-54 win over Dalton in the B independent schools state final on March 7, which was the last time they played. The Bulldogs will also have to try to contain Kriftcher, who poured in 25 in that game. And they will have to try to cut down on their turnovers after committing 18 against Oneonta.
Up next: The Bulldogs play the winner of Friday’s 10 a.m. semifinal between PSAL champ Goldstein High School for the Sciences of Brooklyn and CHSAA champ St. Mary’s of Lancaster. The winners will meet for the title at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Civic Center.
