According to a report in the Hudson Valley Sports Report, Sarah Mesuch is no longer the girls basketball coach at Our Lady of Lourdes.
Neither Mesuch, a Lourdes alum, nor athletic director David Seipp will be retained by the school. The report says it’s unknown whether they will remain at the school in a teaching capacity.
Mesuch replaced former Haldane coach Ken Thomas in 2003-04. Thomas coached at Lourdes for one season after Brian Giorgis went to Marist in 2002.
In her first season as head coach, 2003-04, Mescuh coached Lourdes to a Class A state championship in 2004. The Warriors went on to win four straight Section 1 championships before the program’s streak of 15 consecutive Section 1 titles ended in 2008, their first in Class AA. They have made the County Center just once in three seasons in Class AA (2009).

This is surprising news. Little correction: it was 2 trips to the county center in 4 years in AA. He took the Girls Varisty Soccer to their first trip to the State Tournament among many other athletic acomplishments. Obviously their success coaching is not an issue. I have always only heard positive words to both of their character. There appears to be more to this story.

There is more information on the website Hudson Valley Sports report about this saga today. This thing has really begun to take on a life of its own with the adminsitration refusing to comment to any media outlet in the area. There is still something fishy about this whole thing. Mesuch was not the least tenured gym teacher at the school, and her dismissal leaves the school with no female gym teacher. So I find the argument of pulling the purse-strings hards to understand. Very interested to see who the new hire is. This program has been such a source of pride for our community I hope to not see it whittled away. Someone mentioned Al Viani, or his daughters. I would not see Al fitting in there but Julianne is interesting. Though I know she is now working for MSG varsity. Jenna Viani is a nurse so I do not see how that would work out. The local Giorgis disciples are the two women at Beacon and the woman at Dover. I have seen them both in my rounds of dutchess basketball they can all coach and would be an asset. I have always felt bad for the dover coach she seems to have extensive knowledge but no horses. Beacon has been as successful around here as any program of late, so the head coach and assistant would be interesting. I wonder if any westchester coaches would be drawn to come up to Poughkeepsie? The question is whether Lourdes has retained its place as an elite basketball school or not? Either way I hope they find the right person to revitalize the program
The word that I have heard is that Sarah is close to being named the new coach at Haldane High School. Also it appears that Mike Krieger is heavily involved in the Lourdes decision, which probably means one of his daughters will end up with the job, which will be hardly the big name coach we are looking for. I still think they should look at one of the beacon coaches or Al Viani
