Well, they didn’t make it to 100 points for the fourth straight game. But one little point can’t change this fact: the Hudson Valley girls just completed one of the most impressive tournaments in Empire State Games history.
The scholastic women’s team won 99-53 today over Central to win the second straight gold medal for Hudson Valley and the third at the last five Games. How good were they? Dan Ricci pulled a Chuck Daly from the 1992 Dream Team, not calling a timeout all tournament.
He didn’t have to. Hudson Valley led today 58-29 at halftime, breaking the 50-point mark for the fourth straight game. Seven girls finished in double figures: Lillian McCabe, Rye (18), Felicia DaCruz, Albertus Magnus (14); Teneka Whittaker, Lourdes (13); Brittani Lai, Edgemont (13); Saniya Chong, Ossining (12); Alexis Martins, Irvington (12); Hayley Kanner, Scarsdale (11). The two others who played were Liz Milner of Haldane (6) and Katelyn Spicer of Albertus Magnus (0). Raegan Knox of John Jay sat out because of yesterday’s injury.
The team could be just as strong next year when Lai, Chong, Martins and Knox will all be eligible to return.

Yes, my daughter tells me that Teneka Whittaker of The WBA Lady Knikcs is headed to The University of Rhode Island. From what we hear it was down to George Mason University and The University of Rhode Island.
Whitaker was down to ohio state, uri amd gmu from what I heard she got many looks playing at usjn with the hoopers with brian williams she got calls from st johns, georgetown and other big school from that one weekend. She had already verbaled.
brian thanks for the info.
Horne to georgetown
Doesn’t surprise me ,teneka played hard and looked real god with the hoppers down in Philly!
Meant to say good instead of god
Is there any truth to britney horne to georgetown and if there is what is the opinions on her actually playing ?
on a completely different note, just a thought: just as in any profession, a person has to know when it’s time to retire. when a ref can’t get up and down the court, call me crazy but perhaps it’s time for him to retire from varsity games anyway. i submit that varsity-level games are too fast paced for many of these refs. I was at a fall league game at club fit and the ” quality ” of the reffing was horrendous. Do everyone one in Section 1 a favor, and as you age and can’t keep up with the game, go to rec league or stop altogether.
information
you said you heard. who did you hear from or were you actually there. lol. are you inferring that whiatker got interest only when she went down to play with westchester team and had no interest before that.
I am not information and can only assume but think what he was saying is that as a result of her play at usjn in Philly with the hoopers that those mentioned schools expressed interest in her (all those mentioned schools were there and watching the hoopers play dc love). Now a player of Tenekas caliber no doubt had big-time looks from her high school play, aau w/ lady knicks, and ESG but I think information was talking about who saw her this one weekend
I think the knicks only do small D-1 schools , good for her to get a good look from a big school, Good Luck
As many players will find out the hard way bigger is not always better
Is it all about ball or education?

2 girls from section 1 make all star team at the Rose Classic..C.Scaglamiglio of PR and C.Chong of Ossining
I have to admit I come here to get a laugh. So many great kids working hard on their game. Instead of being carved up, so they can then be set up by immature ‘adults’ that want to denigrate the girls, they should be applauded. Collectively, as success stories for our region.
All this talk by fat white guys sounds like D & D players, baseball card collectors, nerds. And that is without reference to the jealousies, slander, lying and the rest of that evidenced here.
What a laugh!
The crazy thing here is parents are signing on with multiple alias’ and writing about how great their daughters are. It’s hysterical.
