Tom Doherty, the former Pearl River AD, remains a big follower of Rockland sports. He releases a weekly list of his Top 12 Rockland teams, regardless of sport, called the Dandy Dozen. Thought I’d share this week’s list.
You can see that he has Albertus girls basketball as the third best team in the county, and Pearl River as the fifth best.
1.) Suffern Boys Ice Hockey, Coach Rob Schelling—Record: 13-1-1 (#1)
2.) North Rockland Girls Bowling, Coach Joan Nelson—Record: 119-0 (#2)
3.) Albertus Girls Basketball, Coach Pat Buckley—Record: 13-0 (#3)
4.) Pearl River Boys Basketball, Coach Jerry Houston—Record: 12-2 (#4)
5.) Pearl River Girls Basketball, Coach Lorraine Moylan—Record: 12-1 (#5)
6.) Albertus Boys Basketball, Coach Pat McFadden—Record: 10-2 (#6)
7.) Tappan Zee Boys Swimming, Coach Dan Rafferty—Record 6-1 (#7)
8.) North Rockland Wrestling, Coach Andy Guccione—Record: 19-3 (#8)
9.) North Rockland Boys Basketball, Coach Chris Roff—Record: 11-2 (#9)
10.) Clarkstown Boys Bowling, Coach Jeff Gartner—Record: 94-18 (#10)

Why would we want to know this???
Only 6 schools recognized for the whole county? Not much diversity.
who cares? all those teams still lose to westchester
Stanner’s Dandy Dozen:
1.) Fat Free Breyers Chocolate Ice Cream.
2.) My wife. (any lower than #2 would put me in deep doo doo)
3.) Saniya Chong because she is the best team in AA.
4.) My Sharona.
5.) Provincetown during the parade season.
6.) Unsqueezed Charmin.
7.) “Here Comes The Sun.” (Best Beatles song ever)
8.) As long as we’re on music, James Taylor, Jimmy Buffet and Orleans.
9.) Belly Flops. (Anytime, Anywhere)
10.) A good Pinot Noir.
11.) Did I mention Coach Ricci?
12.) official. (there wasn’t a chance you wouldn’t make the list!)
Very Wrong,
Only 11 schools in the county. Much smaller than Westchester, so it isn’t as bad as it seems.
Dad,
Hope that was just a sarcastic comment. Maybe half of those would lose to Westchester teams. Should be 75% if you consider that Westchester has four times the number of schools. Don’t know much about gymnastics, wrestling, or bowling, but Albertus and PR girls are considered 2 and 3 in A with a chance to beat Peekskill. TZ boys won the gold ball last year and return everybody. PR will be a top 4 or 5 seed with a shot. Suffern hockey is the top ranked team in the state.
Not saying they are better, but I wouldn’t just dismiss them.
Suffern hockey and Clarkstown/TZ gymnastics have been pretty dominant in recent years in all of section 1.
The boys basketball spots will have to be changed after recent results.
