Saniya Chong is the Westchester/Putnam player of the year. And at least one Section 1 coach, not Dan Ricci, saw it coming when she was still in elementary school. You can read about that here, along with capsules on the rest of the first team all-stars.
The Rockland player of the year is a familiar one. Christa Scognamiglio earned the same title last year. Both times she suffered painful eliminations to Peekskill in the playoffs. As I detail in my story, she’s committed to going all the way in her last year. The Rockland first and second team is also here.

why no mention(or picture) in the main article that DaCruz was voted co-player of the year(?)..it only mentions the fact in the 3 sentences of Felicias bio …just wondering
Seems kind of odd…nary a New Rochelle Player on any list and yet they were in the final four at County Center, go figure!

The question wasnt whether Felicia deserved it(my opinion she did/yours that Richards did…but Richards is a gamer!)was why scog’s was the only one photographed or mentioned in the article as player of the year not co-player of the year which she actually was
There are two allstar lists, the coaches make there picks and that’s where they decided to have DeCruz and Scogs share the award. The journal news then picks their allstars and they picked Scogs and only Scogs as player of the year.

Rudy- I like your comment because it’s short and accurate. Chong is a great player but please let’s not insult the intelligence of all those who think she is going to play for Uconn, Duke,ND,Tennesee or any top 25 team. Her ppg is a joke in Section 1. There are at least 10 girls in Section 1 that could average 30 pts a game on Ossining if they played her minutes and took her attempts!!!!!!
Well I heard she wasn’t at the hoopers games or Riccis this weekend as she was at the Nike Skills Camp…...think if she stops listening to some people (dr)she will be a team player and go to a top 25 d1 program..she can do it no doubt
