Jake,
You left out Kim Hanlon and Sofia Roman of White Plains
Mia Hood 5’10 (Westchester Hooper’s) F Alexander Hamilton HS- Showed good touch around the basket, finished with both hands at the rim and rebounded well for her size. Hood showed the ability to extend her game to the 3 point line.
taken from ESPN website on a review of New York Girls at Boo Williams tournament in Va last month…way to go Hoopers
Who needs Chong we got Hood.Go Mia
What ever team Chong is on will bring more recognition to the other players. Unfortunately some of the coaches / parents on here who were her biggest cheerleaders will now become her detractors. IMO she will go to a top 25 school, don’t expect anywhere near the numbers she does in HS, but a good showing none the less. Go Saniya and all the other hard working girls in section one!!!
This is what happens when adults are relentlessly singing the praise of a 16 or 17 year old kid. Why all the drama. Pick a team and play with that team. This is the same scenario that happens with many kids who become high profile (because of misguided adult adulation). They get an unrealistic opinion of themselves. Not totally their fault but very hard to reign back in once it is out of the barn. Then you have parents who think that because their kid is on the same team as her that somehow their kid will get a scholorship. Doesnt work that way.
I have seen the Hoopers and Breeze teams and there is not any comparison at all.. If Saniya or anyone of these good players in our area are going to get better they need better practices, better tournaments, play with Talent, and most importantly work ethic.. I brought my daughter to one of the Hoopers practices and they deal with the fundamentals and it is not the Saniya show at all!!!! The team she plays on plays together with or without her.. Playing for ur high school coach and team is a joke and you will not get better, ala Breeze and New Rochelle team LOL!!! The high school coaches need to embrace AAU Coaches and stop fighting them..Parents see their kids name in LOHUD and think their kid is a star until they hit the road and get embarrassed, then they blame the AAU coach!!! If u want ur kid to be good high school/potential College players, Hoopers and Lady Knicks are the way to go for our area!!! Right now the Hoopers have a leg up, no offense!!!!
AA Dad or Hooper Coach
The reason why the ncaa is coming down on aau is because of theaau coaches. Many of them do not have the qualifications to coach grammer school let alone hs players. Many of them are in it for the wrong reason = money. Many of them are in it because they want their kid on the court. Many of them dont do the right thing by the kids = bringing in diferent players for different tournaments. Many of them are used car salesmen who will tell a parent anything to get their money so they use that money to pay for other kids=happens all the time. I can go on and on but you get my drift. The viewing period is almost non existent and you can thank the aau scene for that (they dont want the aau coached involved for all the above stated reasons). If you dont beleice me you can do the research
hoops…. i agree that some people in aau arent qualified to coach but to paint all aaau coaches with that broad stroke is misleading and wrong. plenty of AAU coaches coach at high levels(ie;the Hornets have Steph Cleary asst varsity
Albertus Magnus,Bartell-varsityDobbs Ferry,Lady Knicks have Vaccarro who is Scarsdale varsity coach, and the Hoopers have Coach Luck in Mount Vernon program, and Coach Ty at Woodlands Hs..these are just a few that I am familar with) there are plenty of qualified aau caoches …....Viewing period for girls is 4/15-17,July 1st-31st,and a few days in October-if your kid is interested in playing in college(and yes I am realistic that the majority will not play Div 1-but to continue to play a game you love at Div 2,or 3 is great)you should be with an aau team that goes to “quality”showcase events during the viewing period…. also follow the talent where are all the top girls playing in the area??don’t think they would be going to a non-quality program if they did not have something to offer the girls-in years past the Lady Knicks was the place to play in Westchester if you wanted to be seen by college coaches but now the Westchester Hoopers are at that level(or past them as you look at there competitive schedule and their 2 elite teams rsoters),and other quality programs around are the Hudson Valley Hornets and Rockland Royals-do your research parents…..AA Dad…i agree playing on your high school team during the aau season is a waste-get out of your comfort zone and play with different players, and coaches
Hoops(again) to your post from 5/4 @ 432..yes just because you are on team X with a McDonalds All American does not mean you will get a scholarship for your little suzy-but if she is playing on the aau team and is showcasing her skills-all those coaches that come to see the All -american may see something in your little suzy or know where somehwere she would be a good fit
Did not mean to say all AAU coaches are not qualified and I agree with some of the names you mentioned as totally qualified. However, there are a vast majority that do fall into that category. Again, this is a big reason why the ncaa has limited the contact that aau coaches can have with a player. AAU has gotten very seedy to say the least. As far as a kid playing with an elite player, yes the coaches will be there watching said elite player but that does not translate into scholorships for others. Coaches are looking for skill, size, speed, and athleticism. Either you have these qualities or you dont.
Thanks for everything Coach Hamlin. We will miss you! Briarcliff community is reeling right now because we heard that all the rumors since the end of the 2010-2011 Girls basketball season are true. Mr. Hamlin is gone and Briarcliff needs a new Girls Head Coach.
Where is coach Hamlin going?
Former AAu Coach & AA Dad AKA Mountie Hoops…..how many differnet names do you use? Please don’t insult our intelligence and deny the fact. Just post under one name even if you think a team, player, coach, org, is better than its counterpart. It’s just your opinion we all have them. Man up
You’re wrong. Not posting under all those names
Know who former aau coach is..was with the person while they posted that but wrong posting as aa dad and the other. Nice try though
