As you may recall, New York State budget cuts forced the cancellation of the Empire State Games this summer (and perhaps beyond). The Basketball Coaches Association of New York has stepped up to fill the summer hoops void.
The BCANY will host a Summer Hoops Festival this August in Johnson City, a suburb of Binghamton. The three-day festival will simulate the Empire State Games experience for scholastic boys and girls basketball players across the state. Eight boys teams and eight girls teams will each play four games from August 5-7 in various gymnasiums around Johnson City. A clinic will also be held for the players, and parents and players are invited to an information session about the recruiting process.
The local girls team will have only one tryout, on Wednesday, June 29 at Ossining High School from 5-7 p.m. All rising 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th graders who play in Section 1 are eligible. Unlike in the Empire State Games, the BCANY Hudson Valley team consists only of Section 1, not parts of Section 9 as well like Orange County. So if anyone is reading this from Section 9, this tryout does not apply to you.
All players under 18 years of age must have a parent or guardian present at the tryout to fill out a waiver.
There will be three or four additional practices before the tourney.

Can we get a list of girls who made the team? Any Idea on the coaching jobs around the county??? Scarsdale…Briarcliff??
Any recruiting updates? July should be a big month and a bunch will prob committ I would think.
Team has one more tryout
Looks like MR.ZUCKER will try and fill MR.V shoes. LOL
New coach at Scarsdale is Stan Hamlet, he was the Kieo boys coach last year, and before that a long time JV boys coach at Horace Greeley
Did Mr.V resign due to heat brought on by the Zuckers.Just a big fan of Mr.V
I love going to the Lady Knicks website and following the teams and the players. How come 11th grade white stopped publishing their scores. I know that they are playing tougher competition. For years they always published their scores, I wonder why they stopped
Looks like 11th grade white is all 10th graders.
I heard that a lot of the girls were hurt. Maybe they are not playing
at the Albany Gym Ratz word was that they were down to 5 players and one of their brightest(britany Lai) was out with a broken foot or bone in foot and spoke to someone and they said she was at the Empire replacemnt tryouts but didn’t try out due to a hairline fracture in ankle/foot
Any truth to the whispers that Chong got hurt today at a NJ AAU Showcase tournament???and that powers to be were afraid to even tell rici she was there..what say you luck or ossining#1fan
6 weeks /no basketball-strained ligaments in shoulder. Ricci must be screaming. How did it happen Luck or Ossining#1Fan???
Lady Knicks hurt, Chong hurt is it coincidence or are the they playing too much?
dont think its too much basketball as not enough of crosstraining-doing other sports..jumping on the trampoiline…taking your shoes off and playing hours of kickball, soccer, football and such-play other sports jump around but play tons of basketball as well…....unfortunate that 2 of the brightest in section 1(chong and lai) are sidelined with injuries but injuries that can be dealt with rest not surgeries-but the real question where is the Poo Poo Bandit and where has he been
Don’t know about lai’s condition or injury but don’t think chongs is serious or will hold her back just a little rest and she will be fine..real freak accident during a game(contact does happen during games)def.not an overuse thing like someone mentioned
Chong and Lai out can’t wait to see how the BCANY final team turn out. To bad would of paid double to see them on the same team.Chong and Lai on the back court no stopping them. We miss POO POO.
Whats going on on the college front for upcoming seniors and juniors. I know the point guard from white Plains just signed with stony Brook any one else.
Usually 2 or 3 girls( sometimes more ,sometimes less) from each high school team play aau but what about everyone else behind how are the Westchester and rockland high school teams doing in the summer leagues. .....anyone….anyone…?
This is exactly why parents should stress to their children the importance of getting a good education. Injuries come with the territory. Kids…work hard on the playing fields, but work harder in the classrooms!!!!!!
AAU – I agree wholeheartedly with your comments but don’t forget the coaches. They have a responsibility to instill how important education is. Some HS coaches tend to forget this concept while chasing down wins and breaking records.
Hi Everyone, I see I have been missed LOL… I was in Texas when Saniya got injured.. I heard about the injury in Kentucky… It’s not that serious tho.. Some rest, relaxation, and physical therapy will help that injury out… I wish her the best of course… AAU ur right.. If some of these parents don’t express education and just sports their kids will not survive the real world…My whole team from last year, 1-11, graduated, and are all going to college…Very proud of that statistic and I hope the Hoopers can duplicate that again in 2012…
Coach Luck-you mean to say that you weren’t with Miss Chong when she got hurt? I thought she played for you and the hoopers?did the hoopers let you go?did Brian step in?what’s the 411?
who cares
Was the final team picked…heard tryout#2 was today????
Actually, @confused, i took some girls on the road to the Super 64 in Texas, Run 4the Roses in Kentucky, the All American 100 and Battle of the Boro in Tennesssee… She was playing with her high school team in Penn State.. I am still a “Hooper” but the top team has become the “Exodus Hoopers” so we decided to go on that circuit.. I had some 2012 girls who I wanted to have that experience b4 they graduated and they loved it.. Next year the schedule will include : Boo Williams(April), Ohio(Memorial Weekend), Gym Rat and Hershey(June), and we will be in Texas, Kentucky, Tennessee, DC, and Georgia(July).. Since u asked @Confused
I agree @FYE
@luck ????so the girls you left behind didn’t qualify for your new team
Luck,
Wow, nice. So you committed to a team and then left some girls behind. A great show of loyalty to your team. What about committment to your whole team. I thought AAU was about the girls, that would include your whole team and not the top players. The top and bottomr players. This is AAU, not varsity or recreation. Are you not responsible for every player on your team.
AAu father you obviously have never been on the road. You have to bring your top girls or you will just embarrass the girls and your program. You are playing against the top talent in the country. There’s no reason to travel with girls that cannot compete at a high level.
to coach luck…is the exodus hoopers team the same team that ruined the rumble in the bronx tournament at fordham when they rumbled with the gauchos….with girls hitting girls and coached hitting coaches and oh yes coaches hitting girls just asking….
Coach Luck—ignore all these haters they know not what they speak of!!!!
but we do know that a exodus team fought with the gauchos at fordham im just asking what team that was it is common knowledge there was a big fight with fordham security and nypd involved
AAU father-the trip with Luck was made available to his whole Hooper's team but some couldn't committ to 14 days on the road on a bus due to work obligations(2 I know personally had jobs and couldn't leave during the week)family obligations(my daughter had her brothers wedding she had to travel to),etc-the remaining girls did play at local aau showcases with other hooper teams as a matter of fact- 1/2 of Lucky's Hoopers combined with another 16 yr old Hoopers team to win the Best of The East ShowcaseHofstra@FYE-dont think it was the same “team” involved in the brawl but the same org.
Hoopers are back together and Lucky is taking them to DC this weekend to match up to some of the best aau teams around
@Team Picked???-team was finalized down to 12 girls by the coaches last nite…they practice together before heading to Binghamton
Actually@Jerk Chicken and AAU Father, the ladies had prior commitments and couldn’t attend which was already established..They continued to play during the viewing period when they were able to nevertheless.. No one was left behind… @FYE, no we didn’t play in that event, in fact, our girls were at the Hofstra Elite camp when that happened.. An Exodus team did fight at that tournament.. That coach is no longer with the organization and the team was dismantled… It wasn’t “Exodus Hoopers”...@Justwondering, you are absolutely right.. You will get embarrassed if u play in some of these majors without major players.. Sometimes tho it’s good to get smacked around and not duck that kind of talent.. It really puts into Perspective if you r willing to work as hard and train like those girls or is basketball just a nice social thing to do.. That road will humble u as a player and a coach.. We went 0-5 in Texas, and came in second place in both pools in Kentucky and Tenneesee.. Lost by 1pm double overtime and 3pm Tennesse or the girls could have been 4-1… (Tennessee Flight spanked us LOL!!!!) I was proud of our girls!!!!
1pt and 3pts.. Stupid Smart phones!!!
u have like 3 people posting here…one guy we all know and love uses 10 different names
I hear that Reilly Lady Knicks are in trouble. One girl quit this week. Another three or four are looking for another team. Parents and kids had enough. Players do not want to play for coach. Maybe players moving or will move to Hoopers or Pride. Does anyone know more?
Uh, yeah. Same guy has been coaching for umpteen years at Knicks so how is it suddenly the coach? Don’t think so.
Ripping on Luck, please. The guy is the most committed AAU coach in the area and you are LUCKY if your daughter gets to play for him. Those questioning about the travel arrangements, realities of the road … just talking out of their digestive tract end-points, sorry, but they sound either uninformed or disgruntled … keeping open the possibility of both being true.
As for “AAU Outsider”, even your screen name screams, “liar!” You are an AAU parent trying to kick up trouble. Probably a parent of a kid not getting ‘enough’ playing time, touches … on the … Lady Knicks? Forensic analysis hardly needed to out you mommy.
