Ursuline 59, New Rochelle 39: At Ursuline Wednesday, Veronique Ntumba had 13 points and 12 rebounds and Alyssa Lawrence had 12 points and 16 rebounds for the Koalas. Arianna Apostolopolous added eight assists. Mary Miceli had 12 points for New Rochelle.
Ossining 80, Harrison (Ga.) 64: In the semifinals of the KSA Tournament at the ESPN Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla., Saniya Chong had 20 points and 13 assists and Destini Walker had 17 points. Jalay Knowles added 16 points. With the Pride up big in the second half, coach Dan Ricci pulled his starters midway through the third quarter to give some of his reserves quality minutes. The win did come with a price though, as Walker suffered a knee injury and will not play in the championship game Friday when Ossining faces Thomas Edison High School (Va.) for the tournament title in the purple bracket.
Carmel 40, Athens (Ohio) 39: In the semifinals of the KSA Holiday tournament at the ESPN Sports Complex in Orlando Fla., with 15 seconds left and the Rams down 39-38, Kelsey Zwarych missed the potential game-winner, but then Nicole Oliver (eight points, 11 rebounds) was able to put it back on her second attempt with no time remaining on the clock to send the Rams into the championship game. Sabrina Diaz had 15 points and three assists. Alyssa D’Apice had 12 points and four assists. Teammate Taylor Bunkley had six steals. The Rams will play Knott County High School (Ky) Friday at 1:45 p.m. for the tournament title.

I hope Walker feels better. Knee Injuries suck and I hope it is nothing serious.
Yes they do and the freshman is off to a strong start of what looks to be an impressive year and HS career.
Destiny Walker is a very big part of what makes the Pride such an awesome team and she’s a great kid so for her and the team I hope it’s not a serious injury
Ossining just won the championship game in Orlando, congratulations to an awesome team and great coach
Ossining won by 35 or so Saniya had 46. Carmel about to start.
Ossining won 82-60 and Saniya had 46 with 12 assists per Coach Ricci on twitter
What’s the history of Ossining’s nicknames? Didn’t they go from the Riverhawks to the O? When did they become the Pride? BTW, congrats on your tournament win!
Any update on arame?
Want2havfun,
The Pride has become the official mascot after going a few years without one. The O was never an actual mascot, it was just a nickname. The class of 2003 made a big deal about the mascot and ultimately it was changed in 2004 to the Riverhawks after disregarding the overwhelming support, via write in vote, for the Indians. However, the class of ‘04 pointed out to the administration that a Riverhawk is actually a flower and while the administration tried to counter that claim by saying the student body was wrong (despite having a picture of a Riverhawk) and that it was a mythological bird. The student body then opted to drop the mascot and just use the letter O for Ossining since the fans typically chant “Let’s Go O!”. After much deliberation approx 2-3 years ago they decided to go with the Pride as the official mascot.
Who cares
Assuming those numbers are accurate, Chong was responsible for 70 of the 82 Ossining points via points 46 and 12 assists leading to at least 24 points not including possible assists on 3poInters
WHAT THE F IS A PRIDE?
GREAT TOURNAMENT WIN, WAY TO GO INDIANS!!!
HOPE WALKER HAS A SPEEDY RECOVERY.
-RIVERHAWK,O ,PRIDE NEVER.
ALWAYS THE OSSINING INDIANS ALWAYS.
CONGRADS TO COACH RICCI AND HIS COMPLETE TEAM.
Dr Roelle the Ahole took the Indian nick name away to be politically correct, but the town is named after indians so it was ridiculous. John JAy, Mahopac and a few others still have it.
Congratulations to both Carmel and Ossining for their respective wins down in Florida. Way to represent lower NY.
Destini did play in the finals and scored 6 points.
A pride, for those who can’t look things up for themselves, is what a group of Lions travel in. Coyotes travel in packs, lions travel in pride, etc. Most of us in town still recognize the Indian mascot. There were several protests including a walkout by the class of ‘03. This sort of topic doesn’t really pertain to this blog entry though.
WE ARE OSSINING PROUD! Hence “THE PRIDE”....while not the “official” reason the slogan is a di
Derivative of a slogan used by OVAC to promote community awareness in the early 2000 years. These kids are the PRIDE of Ossining! Not just the girls basketball team…but all the kids who partipate in all the SPORTS….THEY PLAY HARD and CLEAN…we are all very PROUD of them! GO PRIDE!
To those of you who took my question seriously, thank you. To Kickin, Happy New Year to you too!
Did Carmel win?
Want2havfun,
Carmel won against Knott County High School (Ky) 61-53. Improve to 4-3 on the season…
I see I will have to use the sarcastic font for people like Colonial.
Good descriptions of Pride and why it is used. But in no way can Pride be considered a mascot.
Maybe Ossining can be The Lions. To the best of my knowledge(which is vast)LOL no other high school in Section One uses the LION mascot. Maybe it is time, especially in light of the fact that Dr Roelle killed the Indians. A Pox on him. I will even spring for the LION outfit.
OIAI
hard to read scarcasm over the internet
HAPPY NEW YEAR,TO ALL
You too Haywood and tell those MV girls to get back on the break. I’d like to see them do well.
I heard that Newburgh wiped the floor with the Pride in a scrimmage. Any truth to that?
Come on Man- You are a Brave person ! Any minute now you will get a barrage of insults and derrogatory remarks saying that you insulted The Pride and its ingredients. You will probably be called jealous for stating your opinion or fact. Even an innocent question may release Pride Hostility! BEWARE- these Ossining fans are very responsive…
doubt it come on..must have been the boys team.
Get Real – lol well played
I don’t think they played Newburgh so that would fall into the “opinion” category I guess. You don’t let facts get in the way of your opinions do you?
Happy 2012 folks!!!! According to the Mayan Calendar this is IT! lol
ComeOnMan…not sure if it is true or not, if both teams are as good as we think playoff time will tell.
getreal…getlost
Get Real,
This just in…Saniya is really a former Olympian who won a Gold Medal and won a WNBA MVP award. She is actually a myth a not a real person…
I hope this makes you feel better…
