Introducing Saniya Chong

Normally, I do not dabble in recruiting rumors. They come, they go. They choose UConn, they don’t. Usually, things work out pretty well for Geno and the Huskies.
But I always say, there is no time like the present to start getting excited about the Class of 2013 and there are whispers going around that a UConn assistant has been assigned to take a look at this promising junior
Here is a link from the http://www.lohud.com blog about Chong
The link just brings you to the Lohud homepage Chongfan. It’s not linked to the blog itself.
Was it neccesary for Irvington to pour on a 54 point victory?
Good question. Ask StannerGrad. But then again he only criticizes Ossining.
Hastings , Pawling curse and other concerned score checkers. I’m not a advocate of running up the score but lets face it sometimes it happens. I’m sure there is no great joy for the winning team. How can you ask the bench not to play. Stop playing Defence? Look at the box score! Points were spread around in the Irvington game. I can’t see Mrs. Maher running it up Sometimes there is just that much of a mismatch.
Hastings: Was it necessary for Hastings to play so poorly? Just wondering!
Now where are all the Chong nay sayers???
UCONN….well Ithink they may know a little more about womens basketball than some of the jealous dopes on this blog…
When they give her a offer then come back on Mrs. Chong till then zip it!! It could all just back fire! And then what???Y’all know what I’m saying!!!!!
Sure looks to me that OSSINING is now officially on the NCAA map! Thanks to Saniya I think it is fair to say that over the next three or four years there will be many more visits to watch the progress of budding stars Walker, Knowles and some other girls who are on the brink. Roll Pride ROLL!
Da hooper
Wether they offer her or not is irrelevent! She will have plenty of offers, the fact that they are considering her says it all. UCONN is the standard in Womens College Hoops and recruits 2-3 players per year…period! They generally have the pick of the litter from a recruiting standpoint.
Of Uconn’s starting guards one is a senior and one is a soph. In addition they have a Frosh getting big minutes, its a question of where they want to concentrate their recruiting efforts by position this year vs. next..
So go look in the mirror and blame yourself for being a hating moron and no one else!
A fully funded Division 1 basketball program offers 12 full scholarships
?????
Not every year, thats the total roster! a recruiting class is normally 2-4 players(per year)..
@Da Hater….what did this kid and her familyt ever do to you. “Mrs. Chong”....I mean come on, grow up!
Gals Hoops NO kidding total roster in usually only 12 players on the team. Common Sense
Toto 2,
Was that necessary?
Da hooper
Chong is the best, high school, women’s basketball player that I have seen in the last 10 years.time will tell if she’s hit are miss at the college level. I think more towards hit.
What ever happen to…GET REAL?
Not to get off the Ossining topic, but nice win New Rochelle over Ursuline!!!
RIVERINDIAN,
Get Real must have jumped!
I’m just askin’, Why are those who speculate about the possible college scenarios that might be available to Saniya Chong be labeled as “haters”? She is probably one of the top 5 players to ever come out of Section One and maybe even the best. But anytime anyone doesn’t compare her to Mother Theresa we experience a plethora of vicious responses from several bloggers. How thin is your skin? Why do you need to constantly defend her? She is an OUTSTANDING player and virtually anyone with any level of common sense is aware of that.
@ stephane, I know Ossining has other good players but now you’re starting to get a bit carried away. Something very special is going on right before our eyes and, barring any unforeseen circumstances, should continue through at least next March. Sit back and enjoy.
The big O circus are at it again.Clowns-Clowns and more Clowns****************
What Id like to know is why Stanner insists on defending any anonymous moron who coes on here and bashes a kidor coach from Ossining. Sure, we’re all anonymous, but many of us, even you somewhat, have been usinghe same handle on her fora few years. Some of these guys are just drive by trashers who keep changing their names. Yet Stanner, instead of calling them on it, insists on defending them. I’m not so sure there’s not a little smoke and mirrors goingon here.
What could possibly negative about the best college girls basketball program in the country coming to Westchester and showing interest in one of our own? Whether they offer her or not. Whether she accepts or not. What kind of demented individual could find a problem with that?
And you dont see this as a problem Stanner? Instead of defending the kid you defend the anonymous trasher? And you wonder why I call you out?
Hs, Once again you prove to have failed at reading comprehension. Please reread what I wrote instead of reading INTO what I wrote. I didn’t defend ANYONE. Whether or not you realize it you are frequently more inappropriate than almost any other blogger on this site. You have repeatedly referred to me as a drunk, a moron and most recently an A-hole. The sad part is that you actually believe that it’s okay for YOU to make such sophomoric and vitriolic accusations yet anybody else that takes exception to whatever you post is a moron, A-Hole or drunk.
I truly hope that you are a HS kid or recent graduate and not a mature adult.
Ossining will be great for the next 5yrs or more, they have a stacked JVthat haven”t lost in 2half years. All 9th graders with 2 7th graders and an 8th grader,so yes they are more than Miss.Chong.Those 2 9th graders are legit on team now.
Stanner the reason for the “drunk” comments is because you appear to have two personalities. Sometimes analytical and thoughtful. Other times incoherent and vitriolic. Any derogatory remarks I made were directed at anonymous cowards attacking kids or their coaches who work tirelessly to support them, and I stand by those.
You on the other hand choose to defend said cowards. So I ask you, who’s position is more honorable?
Stanner…I don’t know how often you have seen Ossining play…I’ve been avidly (ya think) following this particular group for 6 years. Been around girls basketball for quite some time…this particular varsity and jv is 25 deep with just about any one kid who could start on any varsity team around. There are a core group of fans like myself who attend just about every game home and away. We may appear biased…but I can promise you…we all know a lot about high school basketball. We support our kids because we see them every day not only on the court but all around the community. They are loved and respected because they go out of their way to show the same. Leave us alone…stop the downplay…go watch your beloved scanners.
Very well said Stephane they are special group of young lady”s and work hard just like all girls programs in Sec 1
And how do you know how hard all the other teams in Sec 1 work? Have you attended games and/or practices for all?
I think Stephane is speaking from first hand knowledge.
Like I said..I really don’t know about how other teams work..I do know from first hand knowledge how THIS TEAM works. Their record over the years speaks for itself.
Hsbbfan
why attack, its reasonable to say that all the girls in the section who dedicate their time day in and day out for practice and games work hard. Sometimes the talent may not be there or recruited in. I doubt these kids are playing checkers at practice.
hs, You say that I’m sometimes “analytical and thoughtful” the translation of which means I have agreed with you on some point. Other times I’m “incoherent” which means I have “defended an anonymous coward.” who dared make a negative comment about anything remotely Maroon! And when you believe me to be the latter you justify personally insulting me.(drunk, A-hole etc.) How sad that you put down others in order to feel better about yourself. And, btw, how’s that workin’ out for you?
The rules by which you live are very skewed but I know you can’t see it. That’s why I hope you are only a teenager. 95% of anything I have written this season about the Ossining girls team, Saniya Chong and Dan Ricci has been very positive and I have done so without personal attacks. I have had fun with some bloggers like Haywood and I believe a couple of your Ossining supporting cohorts understand the occasional sarcasm and get where I’m often coming from. But you either don’t or won’t so I should probably back off responding to anything you write. Have the last word. As far as responding to you is concerned, I’m done.
@stephane, Where’s the downplay? I love what is happening at Ossining with regards to the Girl’s Basketball program. I was simply reacting to your comment which implied that scouts from the upper tier NCAA Division 1 programs will be headed to Ossining for many years after the Saniya era. Having as much talent as she does is very, very rare. UConn recruiters haven’t been routinely traveling in these parts very often in recent years as far as I know. Please understand that I am not minimizing any of the contributions of the other talented players. Also I’m glad to see that you and others from the community are supporting these kids. That kind of positive support generally carries over into their respective lives long after basketball is over. I apologize if you felt that I was downplaying anyone else’s talent.
Dear Mr/Ms anonymous,
It is not accurate to assume that all teams work equally as hard just because they too have practice. Some teams run till their hearts are in their throats while some teams dont run much at all. Some teams have off season strength and conditioning programs, some do not. Some teams play in the off season, some do not.
I hope that was kind and gentle enough, I sincerely do.
I hope, for Ms. Chong’s sake, she chooses a school based somewhat on the likelihood of her getting playing time. There are probably five or six high school All Americans on the Yukon bench who play very little. We all know what happened to Mookie Jones at the Cuse. Ms. Chong will probably have the opportunity to play at many high level D1 programs, where the probability of her getting a good deal of playing time will be much higher than the probability of her getting a good deal of playing time at Yukon.
Yes, that certainly must be a consideration. If you look at Shea Ralph’s bio on Wikipedia you will see the lack of guaranteed playing time is what attracted her to Uconn. Some kids thrive on that. Saniya will definitely have a tough decision to mae hopefully Uconn is one of her options.
