Irvington will take on Cardinal O’Hara in the Class B federation semifinal at the early time of 11:45 a.m. Here are a few preview stories that ran in today’s paper.
The Irvington High School girls basketball teamhas spent the past three seasons accomplishing things that no other area girls high school basketball team ever has.
The Bulldogs have won three straight state titles, becoming the first Westchester, Putnam or Rockland girls high school basketball team to do so.
Irvington has won one Federation title, a number it will try to double starting with its Class B Federation semifinal matchup against Cardinal O’Hara today at 11:45 a.m. at the Times Union Center in Albany.
The Bulldogs have lost just four times in its past 81 games.
It’s been an incredible stretch. And one that, for the most part, is usually attributed to Irvington’s Big Three — junior point guard Brittni Lai (who transferred to Irvington before last season), junior center Lexi Martins and senior forward Marley Giddins. But great teams don’t win multiple state titles with just three players contributing.
Enter Irvington’s “other” two starters, Ryan McMahon and Alyssa DiCampli. McMahon, a junior, has been a starter in the Bulldogs’ backcourt for the past two seasons. DiCampli, a junior forward, moved into the starting lineup this season after being Irvington’s sixth man last season. Neither scores more than five points a game, yet both, according to Irvington coach Gina Maher, have played integral roles in the Bulldogs’ success.

Gina Maher remembers it well.
It was about a year ago, and the Irvington high school girls basketball coach had watched her Bulldogs build a 14-point fourth-quarter lead against Long Island Lutheran in the championship game of the Class B Federation tournament. Irvington had defeated Long Island Lutheran the year before, and it looked as if the Bulldogs were heading for their second straight Federation title.
Eight minutes later, the final buzzer sounded. The final score was 59-57.
Long Island Lutheran had won.
“Oh, I definitely remember the game and what happened,” Maher said, before insisting that her team was only focusing on its Class B Federation semifinal today against Cardinal O’Hara.

Brittni Lai “transferred” to Irvington? I think not. Her parents moved there. This isn’t college where a student can “transfer” from one school to another. You have to live within the school district to be legally enrolled in the high school. No, I’m not an Irvington parent, I don’t live in Irvington and I don’t know Brittni. I just follow the sport and would like a little more care used in the editing.
will the federation game be webcast like the state championships?
O no could Irvington be like Ossining, having a kidmove there.LOL…bUT ON A SERIOUS NOT GOODLUCK THIS WEEKEND.
JUST A THOUGHT-I have no beef with Ossining. Love the team. If parents move to a particular town, the kid is legit to play there. Was just commenting on the incorrect use of the word “transfer,” as if that’s somehow legal within high school basketball.
Coach L
Many Publics have TRANSFERS
The CLASS A STATE CHAMPS have 4 transfers!! They are from Rochester, Rochester East

That was supposed 2 be a joke because allot of Haters get on OHS 4 recruiting.Great job by Bulldogs.Bring home FEDARATION.
Nick Mariano all section football qb and attack for Yorktown’s football and lacrosse teams. Nick’s parents sold their house in Ossining and moved to Yorktown because of the lacrosse program, they made the correct decision. Same for Randy Stephens who moved from Ossining to Mt. Vernon because of the Mt Vernon program…a no brainer. The list goes on and on…whether it’s football players to Stepinac or hockey players to Iona Prep.
Saniya was in North Carolina and her mom wanted a diverse community with a good bb program, for once Ossining got lucky.
Bulldogs # 1. But it’s hard not to be #1 when you have Three (3) Division 1 players on one team….
