The Section 1 Hudson Valley girls basketball team brought home the gold last night at the BCANY Summer Hoops Festival with a 91-90 win over Central at Johnson City.
Hudson Valley scraped out the gold medal game victory with help from Ossining’s Destini Walker, who converted two free throws with zero time remaining on the clock to give the Section 1 representatives the championship.
“This is a big confidence boost for (Walker),” Hudson Valley coach Dan Ricci said. “With 28 points, she was our leading scorer, and she played way bigger than herself.”
Walker led Hudson Valley, which went undefeated in the five tournament games, with 28 points.
Hamilton’s Maia Hood scored 25 points in the championship game and Ossining’s Saniya Chong, who was named MVP of the tournament, added 23 points in the win.
Earlier in the day, Hudson Valley had easily defeated Southern Tier 96-61 led by Chong’s 29 points and Hood’s 13.

Don’t forget Ossining is also losing Espinoza-Hunter to CTK…they will have a solid team(ricci will have them prepared and he’s got Section 1s best player) but going into states they will be tested
Irvington returns Lai,Martins, and some others so I think Irvington can keep up w/ Ossining but don’t know about Hamilton? Someone said Mia Hood hurt her knee…if she’s out-Hamilton has no shot..if she’s not then Hamilton has a small shot…still think Ossining will win the gold ball
I’m very sad to hear that Destiny is moving, I have enjoyed watching her play she has developed into a great basketball player. It’s a big loss for the pride, huge loss—-I just hope she does well in her new school and she has the same support and guidance given to her in Ossining
It definitely will affect them in States but I don’t think they’ll have much trouble in Section. But they did go out and book a very difficult sched to get the team ready for States and get the younger girls more exposure. i really hope her mom thought this through because this was an awesome environment for D to strive both athletically as well as academically.
What is mom supposed to do if it’s what her career and livlehood that depends on the move?..and the support system she has in place starts at home! No? Let’s not give the school and coach all the credit( yes Ossining and Ricci are good..but not the end all..and don’t go off and start your rhetoric that if we say something about Ossining we are haters/not a hater here)... Cream always rises to top!
Who do you think Ossining will miss more. Walker or Hunter.
Hunter is not going anywhere, what a bunch of knuckleheads.
Wasn’t it reported that she was going to CTK? So before you get all high and mighty mr chief – that’s what was reported here..just was saying based on what was said here..so step off
Ok she goes in fall 2013.. Just reread the august 14 th post from hoopers choice ( so according to that I am wrong for saying she was leaving now and you were wrong for saying she’s not going anywhere) forgot she was 7 th grader last year thought she was 8 th
Chief is correct. She is not going anywhere at this point. You never know what parents will do, but at this point I have it from an impeachable source that they plan to keep her in O for complete exp.
To answer your other question, at this point Destiny. They are both gifted players but play very different gsmes. D gave O inside offense and very good D. A more of an outside shooter at this point. But a very talented one at that.
Destiny will be heard to replace. It was her team next year. I really hope it works out for her. She had a great environment here. Very stable .
@@, Do you always believe everything you read?
On a blog no less.
Here’s another one for you; the US economy is doing well. Solar power will replace Indian Point.
Construction of the new Tappen Zee Bridge will start October, 2012. Had enough? Gullible Putz.
Good points
Your the reason this blog is a joke calling people names all the time! Theonly name I like being called is that sweet one your mom used to whisper in my ear not put. Good day
arrogant to be commenting and giving opinions on a kid’s support system on here/especially when the person commenting on academics doesn’t know what impeachable means/yes, irvington will be able to take oss now/think they beat oss in scrimmages last year
Really? I think they played a real game and lost by 25+.
Regarding the comments on support system it is true that many, myself included, are aware of the support that this particulary kid got or did not get at home and in school. You may not like it but it was no secret and some just want to see her have the best chance to succeed in basketball, academics and life. I dont see anything wrong that.
So you are saying mom hasn’t had her best interests??? Still drinking the cool-aid. Or maybe you may be the master mixing the cool-aid?...hmmmmmmm
Doesn’t appear mom even considered her best interest or would have known the difference if she had. Are you familiar with this specific family situation? I speak from first hand knowledge so I know from what I’m saying. You?
Its no secret among those of us around the team so I dont know who you are or where youre getting your info but youre definitely not, intheknow.
All of you guys are crazy, you dont stay in one place just to play basketball, mother got offered a good job with health insureance and plus she hated playing for Coach Ricci and even wanted to quit last year. Mike S./hSBBFAN
It wasnt “just to play basketball” trust me. Funny that she ddnt want to paybfor coach. My kid says she was very upset about being uprooted and having to leave. Not sure where your getting your info.
Omg…move onto something else, That matters,
how many names do u have on here, coach???? u do know that IP addresses can be traced, right? hey everyone—- walker will be just fine, trust me. even without her amazing support system, world class coach, top notch ossining schooling – she will survive. And I agree that irv will be able to take oss this year do they play each other???
Talk about changing names? You never use the same name. Not sure who you or what your interest in Oss basketball is but you sure are locked on.
And “Question”, why dont you give us something that matters that we can discuss on a girls HS basketball blog besides girls HS basketball?
Does the guy who knows so much about D know where she is enrolled in school so we an follow her progress and career?

pUT IT IN THE BOOKS
HAMILTON WILL WIN STATE TITLE, WE GOT ANOTHER TRANSFRE THIS YEAR.
SHE IS GOOD FOR 25 POINTS A GAME, A REAL BALLER
THIS IS OUR YEAR, SHE A SENIOR SO ITS HER AND MYA AND JAS
Hope she’s got some height.
Little perspective before u go beating your chest and order your state championship ring. A) it’s class D – not like a lot of competition..besides Hamilton and a few section 9 teams the rest of class D in NyS is a little light. B) didn’t mia get hurt?
On a more important note, I heard Ms. Chong is on her final official visit this weekend and should be making her decision very soon. Good luck to her.
Wow, Books you should be so proud. A public school plays the rules and keeps bringing in transfers. Not the way public school basketball is suppose to be. Certainly, not what it is about. In fact, if I was an administrator, teacher or coach at Hamilton, I would be embarrased. Last year Hamilton plays the rules and brings in 2 or 3 girls. Doing it now again this year. I hope Section officials or New York State investigates Hamilton.
Since you know so much. Where was this girl before. Is she living in the school district now. Is it legite. Or am I wrong.
Some of us on her admire this young lady, and wish her the best…if you hear where she is going give us a shout out…hope she is happy wherever she endsbup and gets a good education
I think it’s down to Louisville and Uconn. She should decided in a day or so. I hope it’s Uconn for my own selfish reasons.
Transfers are allowed
Not our fault we get transfers
Everybody loves a winner, so they wanna play at Hamilton!!!!!!
Last year she killed it at SacredHeart in Catholic League
She wil put up 25 points/game
If it is Conn U, I hope she isn’t transferring out of the school in a year or two for lack of playing time. I like Ms. Chong and I like Gino and Conn U but I believe it is a risky proposition for anyone to go there as playing time is not a sure thing.
I agree but you’re not guaranteed playing time anywhere. UCONN has seen her play many times and I understand that they are really pursuing her. They are only bringing in two recruits next year if she accepts and are graduating 3 out of 11.
I’m sure people moving into Hamilton for that stellar education.
According to Msgvarsity, Saniya Chong has verbaled at Uconn.
Yes Saniya did comitt to UCONN, this is awesome for her and her fans
UCONN it is. Congrats Saniya and best of luck to you.
Congrats saniya!
On a more important note, I just caught up with this thread and you OSSholes who are so in the know about players personal lives should know better to speak of it in a public forum. Dysfunctional FRACKS puffing out chests because.. Why? Next you’ll be cursing out players mistakes from the stands. Get a grip.
Hey GameChanger & Huh,
Sounds like y’all dislike success? Just curious!! I can tell you those girls at Hamilton do the honor thing over there…and if you feel a need to investigate add all the schools in section 1 to the list, LOL…that C school be balling beating up on AA, A, B, & C schools…I was a witness and love the way they play and pushed academically…appreciate, don’t hate!!!
