We knew about the decision weeks ago, but now Ossining standout Saniya Chong has made it official.
The senior signed and faxed over a letter of intent to play to the University of Connecticut early this morning, before a ceremony was held at Ossining High School to celebrate the event.
Chong is a two-time Journal News Westchester/Putnam player of the year and was one of the top female high school recruits in the country before committing to UConn.
In three years at Ossining, Chong has already broken the school record for career points, a record she will add to each game this season, and is a member of the elusive 2,000-point club.
UConn has won the more NCAA women’s basketball championships (7) than any other Division-1 program, winning six of those titles from 2000-2010. The Huskies have made it to the Final Four in each of the past five seasons.
Other area players who have also signed D-1 letters of intent include Lubirdia Gordon of Mount Vernon (West Virginia), and Maeve Parahaus of Albertus Magnus (Manhattan). Irvington’s Brittni Lai will sign with Marist Monday, when teammate Alexis Martins signs with Lehigh.
