Friday will feature a highly-anticipated marquee match up, as Ossining hosts Christ the King at 4:30 p.m. For the Pride, it will be their first game back on the court since winning the Slam Dunk tournament in a thrilling final over Irvington during the holiday break.
Our esteemed colleague and Journal News sports columnist Rick Carpiniello will be covering the game tomorrow and will be tweeting updates from Ossining. Those of you looking to track the action can follow Rick at @LoHudCarp (this link should take you directly to his page).
* CHONG TRACKER * Ossining senior Saniya Chong (pictured right) is once again expected to make headlines as she looks to move into third place on the all-time Section 1 girls scoring list. Chong, who has 2,372 career points entering tomorrow’s game, will need to score 13 to surpass Hamilton alum Cusena Newton (Class of 1987) for sole possession of third place.
After recently moving past Pawling grad Margo Hackett (Class of 2011) at the Slam Dunk tournament, Chong is now on the outskirts of territory that has not been touched since before both Phil and I were even born. All three of the ladies ahead of Chong graduated in the mid-1980’s, and are all expected to to be looking up at Chong by season’s end.
Here’s a list of the top five all-time female scorers in Section 1:
1. Karen O’Connor (1983-87), FDR/Hyde Park — 2,662
2. Sheila Wagner (1981-86), Peekskill — 2,476
3. Cusena Newton (1982-87), Hamilton — 2,384
4. Saniya Chong (2009-13), Ossining — 2,372
5. Margo Hackett (2007-11), Pawling — 2,266
As for the other games around town, take a look at the list of tomorrow’s slated events (yes, with predictions!) For those of you that have been keeping track, since we started picking a few weeks ago, Phil and I have posted a 65-22 (.747) season record. Hopefully we can get to an even 80 percent by season’s end.

Looking forward to a great game tomorrow at Ossining, Let’s Go Pride !
If anyone is attending the Ossining game, it would be advisable to be there for 4:15 because almost all of their home games have started early this season.
Good to see JN sending the big Carp out for the big game. Should be a good one.
Ossining vs CTK should be angreat game( isn’t Espinoza hunter considering CTK?..that’s what was said on here last year)
North rockland vs Cl South should be the top game in Rockland County so far and should determine the big school champ!I had picked South to win it in the beginning of the year but NR is on fire and keeps winning ( even made the MSG varsity top 10 in the HV)
Wouldn’t be surprised to see Geno here scouting Calhoun and watching Saniya
Geno Auriemma is here!
Tonight Coach Martinez is going for his 200th victory as a coach. Hopefully the Trojans will deliver. Go Blind Brook.
89-84 Ossining final. Fantastic game. CTK had to be one of the most athletic and dangerous teams I’ve ever seen. Does anyone know when the game will be aired?
Anyone have any numbers from the game yet?
Wow saniya had 29 in the 4 th…clutch…
Only the Mt Vernon section championship game was better than this one. Chong took over the
game midway through the third quarter. She finished with 46. She’s the best I’ve seen!
Unconfirmed — but we will add them to latest post once we receive confirmation. Stay tuned!
She had flu too. Incredible
I notice that the other 4 players listed in the top 5 scorers played 5 years to Chong’s 4! Even more impressive!
she had 46
The Calhoun girl was very good.
#4 for CTK finished with 30 and #21 finished with 32. Saniya didn’t even score in the first quarter. She finished with 46 points, 12 assists, 7 rebounds, 2 blocks and 5 steals.
Calhoun had 30 points, 5 assists, 14 rebounds, and 5 steals.
Scarbrough had 32 points, 3 assists, and 11 rebounds.
CTK was a VERY well balanced team and just about everyone could score and put up big numbers.
If you were not there you missed one of the best girls Bball games in many, many years.
How do you know when the crowd is SRO? When Geno has to stand in the corner. LOL
CTK is probably more athletic than Ossining giving Ossining’s young kids some invaluable experience again today. BUT the difference maker was Saniya Chong who simply just took over the game in the last 11 minutes. She never ceases to amaze.
Both teams played very hard, #4 from CTK is a great player but Saniya once agian took control and won the game for Ossining, not to say she didn’t have help because she did Espinoza Hunter hit some great shots and the freshman was awesome until she fouled out.
@Ossining #1 science program in the country….not knocking saniya at all( am a huge fan of hers) but the girls in the top 3 did the majority of there scoring in the Pre -3 point arc days I believe…don’t know what exact year it was added in NYS but think it was 87.. If that’s the case makes it just as impressive as saniyas 4 yr record.
Again not knocking chong
Made 3 pts.. Sr yr ( so far). 40… So deduct 40 pts
Jr yr. 100….. So deduct 100 pts
Soph yr 84…. So deduct 84 pts
Fr yr. ....28. So deduct 28 pts..
So minus her current total 252 pts. She would be in 6 th all time( still think that she will get the record if the three point arc wasn’t established) just giving you some perspective..she still has my vote as the bedtime and most talented female hooper out of section 1
Guys…guys….the game has changed soooo much since then…I doubt very seriously that any of the girls saniya is being compared to couldn’t,t carry her iPhone…..she will end up with a record that should last 5 more years….till Espinoza hunter breaks it….IN SIX VARSITY SEASONS! Amen
@Game Watcher, I love E-H but Saniya will probably hold the record for many years. Still it’s a fun discussion.
The record for 3 point goals in a career is 277. Looks like Saniya can set a new standard there, at least until Ezpinoza-Hunter is done.
Sorry Gents, Hunter does not have the same tools Saniya has to score points…not even close. Saniya’s ball handling skills are better which is what makes her so much more difficult to guard. Saniya also has a very rare ability to consistently shoot 3’s off the dribble.
If Hunter beats her records it will only be because she will have played 6 years, which puts what Chong is doing in perspective.
