Here are some other headlines from tonight:
BREAKING: Horace Greeley senior Jackie Brett (pictured right) scored her 1,000th career point today against Rye. Brett scored 20 points in the Quakers’ 51-46 win over the Garnets.
Sleepy Hollow plays Nyack a little too close for comfort, extending its win streak to 11 games with a thrilling 62-59 overtime win. Our colleague Brian Heyman was there covering all the action, so his game story should be quite the read.
Solomon Schechter had its six-game winning streak snapped today, as Port Chester wins 51-42 for just its second win of the year (second in-a-row, though).
Hamilton senior Maia Hood continued to close in on her 1,000th career rebound after grabbing 17 in a 59-26 win over Blind Brook. After scoring her 1,000th career point last year, Hood would be just one of a handful of players to join the 1,000-1,000 club should she reach the milestone by season’s end.

Suffern couldn’t contain there momentum, losing 55-38…on a plus they are now at full strength with there injured player who missed the last 8 games is back( she had dropped 16 in game one win, hopefully with some practice can fire her team back into the winning column)
Big Win fora young Mahopac team, 56-46 over JJCR, had contributons from all 5 staraters.
How about a little press about Pleasantville who is now 11-1, team is doing a great job under Coach Hill 2nd year,
I have to agree with BB insider. I’ve seen them and though not a threat to Irvington they could sneak into the County Center at sectional time.
What happened to Blind Brook? Is Manny still resting his starters?
Sleepy’s looking good. The team is young, and should only get better. They’re record is deceiving.
If you look at their opponents its a bit of a cupcake schedule.
If anyone was at the Hamilton/Blind Brook game can you tell me if Hamilton’s starters were in at the end? Thanks
Wasn’t there but Considering according to recap 3rd quarter was 54-20 and final was 59- 26 Starters? I hope not!
Should be interesting for Hamilton vs Ossining on Wed.
Not sure if Hamilton can stick with Ossining but their speed might make it a game…. for a while
Problem is Hamiltons roster is what? 7 or 8 players.
@hsbbfan,
Sports_Junkie was in the building and witnessed them only having 7 players that played tonight with the 2 other players still not cleared to play and just like at the JJ game the coach did a great job with his personel dealing with the hand he is dealt getting players in and out of game. Another good game i saw as i sat close to the Ossining coach who was there watching. Wednesday Ossining plays at Hamilton ….I’ll be at that game, will you?
@Bucketboy, i was trying to explain to hsbbfan that with 7 players somebody has to play which probably makes it hard for the coach when it comes to subs knowing some of his players may be tired or didnt want to go back in the game etc., i’m just fishing now… i’ve been watching Hamilton for a minute and they are playing good defense thats holding good teams under their scoring average. Them and Ossining should be a good game just like last year, just hope Hamilton can make their shots this year because that game at Ossining last year they missed a ton of easy shots … Love watching those two teams play and representing girls basketball.
Pleasantville has a great coach, I agree with bb insider. Hamilton also has great coach.
The Pleasantville coach is doing an amazing job with those girls. You can tell those girls are well coached and prepared as I think the Hamilton coach is with his girls. But you cant exclude Irvington, Ossining, Pearl River and many other coaches that are doing a good job as well.
HS, Why do you keep bringing up the # of Hamilton starters playing late in the game when they only had 8 players? At least two and probably 3 or 4 had to play in the 4th Q because of player tiredness and the shortage of the bench. Perhaps you are simply trying to justify Ossining playing their starters deep into contests that were essentially over in the 1st Q during the past several years.
Lets be clear. Hamilton has three starters who make significant contributions. I was at a game where they were up by 30 with uder 3 mins to go and ALL three of those players were still in the game. Even after a time out. I questioned why. Apparently one of their parents/asst coahes doesnt like that. It doesnt matter that they gphad 8 players. Sure somebody has to play te ed of a 30 pt blowout, but why them?
And please point out where Oss kept its starters in 30 pt blowout untilthe end.
BTW-The reason Hamilton missed so any shots last year is called defense.
And how is a 59-26 win “anoter good game”?
Of course I will be there. How many you want 20? Will you be on the bench or in the stands? Lets meet.
correctly they play only 7 or 8…but no one shud compare the way ricci keeps its starters in to the way carter does for his girls…just recognize how they r two great teams…nd despite the fact that ossining is deeper nd that darn good…hamilton’s play has made this a marquee matchup
hs OK I get it lets face it you have a case for Hamilton.
I have to say I have a little different take on playing a whole game. Coaches Ricci and Carter
Have their eye on something more than the Gold ball. From what I read Ossining had trouble, in Az, holding their leads and I think thats because they were not use to playing a whole game. conditioning sure but full game ready ? Just my thoughts
@ hsbbfan
You made your point about Hamilton’s super star players being in the game when they are a short staffed team. Things happen but still don’t think they were left in their on purpose. I wonder is that your 1st game you saw before you went into blast mode other than watching a good hard fought game deep into the 4th quarter. Also, since you question why, it’s real easy to contact that coach by calling Hamilton’s AD to request his number and ask him why and you’ll probably get you answer.
I don’t have to point out where OSS has left girls in the game…people talk and when it has happened I’m sure the coach from OSS had his reasons. It’s not a big deal to me.
And that 59-26 win was a good game because Blind Brook is a good team that missed plenty shots by Hamilton’s good defense I witnessed. Just because a team wins by a large margin at times doesn’t mean it wasn’t a good game.
It wasnt Ossining defense that tbeat Hamilton, no way!! Ossining played well last year and made their shots as I saw Hamilton miss free layups and a ton of free throws, can’t win like that…Ossining did look worried a little cause despite the final score that was a good game the best I saw last year and anticipate another good one this year…I got Hamilton by 10 only because of their defense and short amount of bench players…Ossining will be able to keep girls fresh with their bench which could make the difference if they win.
I will be there in the stands, sitting across from bench where home team sits watching Jasmine Robinson to me so far the best defender in section 1 put the clamps on Chong. Do love Chong but she may have to score 60 if Ossining prevails.
Hey HS and sportsjunkie, why don’t you guys put some name tags on so you can spot each other
I think JR is your best player. She ain’t stopping Saniya though. Never has. I hope its a good game. I like competitive games. I think the depth and the star player will be a little too much for you guys but that’s why they play the games. Best of luck to you and your girls.
Coach Martinez pulled Silfen at the beginning of 4th and most of his starters by the early middle of the 4th quarter and Blind Brook had no starters in the last three minutes of the game. Look Blind Brook did not show up. Blind Brook had a bad night. Two of Hamilton starters scored 20 and 23 and no one else on Hamilton really scored so I do not think Hamilton was trying to pile but Blind Brook did pull its players first and way before Hamilton. I guess one can just say that Hamilton came to play and played and nothing more should be read into this.
@SportsJunkie, I agree with most of what you posted but not your prediction. If you stop Chong (btw, nobody has) there are other players who can step up. Sure, Chong is the key but they are no longer a one player team. I think Oss. wins by 25+. Sorry I can’t make the game.
Unless of course it’s a pattern. Can any of hamiltons opponents add some color here? Did they play starters until the end when they played you?
Chong will score 60 in a game before the end of the season!
Could be tomorrow if her coach leaves her in the whole game.
@ StannerGrad
Ossining has gotten better with more players getting involved in the offense. What I like about tomorrow’s game is Hamilton defense & Ossining offense and great matchups … I still got Hamilton by 10, maybe 15. Being bold but after watching both teams play they get after it.
@ Section 1 Women
I don’t know anything about a pattern for Ossining or Hamilton…I just know that those two good coaches prepare their team to play hard…I mean who get caught up about who starts and finish the game on an elite HS level, not me!!
@ Ossining #1 Science
Chong can score 60 on a weak team if she choose too. But don’t think it will happen with them being a more balnced scoring team & plus she would have to shoot a 100x
Section 1 woman are you paying attention here
They only have 7 maybe 8 players unless they go with 3 on the floor some starters are in.
I agree Ossining by 20+
I’m done with debating about what coaches do with players who should finish the game cause if that’s the case name every HS that is guilty of leaving so called good starters in the game. Remember some coaches have to beg players to play not having the luxury as larger schools to fill up a complete roster of 15 players. They talked about Ossining last year now this year Hamilton … Lets move on and enjoy the growth of Westchester girls basketball.
So Stanner, let me see if I understand this correctly because I don’t want to misconstrue your position. Are you really ok with a winning team leaving its best players in until the buzzer of a 30 point blowout? Because “someone has to be out there”?
ppl…Hamilton only plays seven…mayb eight…why is that not being seen?? nd s/o to those who picked Hamilton by ten nd fifteen…gonna be a good one…
Clarification on the JJ game hsbbfan, section 1 women & all that needs to know … Had a source reach out to coach Carter about the 30 point victory & how someone was on blog beating him up for his best girls being in game … He said Hood was in foul trouble with 4 & had to sit early in third, he didn’t want to put her back in game but he was short of players & players got tired who already play a lot of minutes plus 2 girls he could have used are not cleared to play as I asked when I saw them. Tiffany his point guard usually gets backed up by point guard who quit & jasmine is the back up now … He said he doesn’t get caught up in the score and Hood is the 1st girl usually sits when blowing a team out…he also said the last 2 meetings with JJ he had a big lead & well coached JJ took them to the wire having a chance to win the game & he was shocked that the score ended that way. No disrespect to teams he beats by 30 but wish he had more players to rest his girls more so people don’t think otherwise
I also asked him about Ossining game & what would he think if Ossining beat them by 30. His response was, if they do my team will learn from it but he doesn’t expect that to happen because they play defense & are prepared for battle from start to finish no matter what the score is.
And the Blind Brook game they were in till the end because?
Why are they so short staffed and how’s their JV?
Playing D against the sched they have played so far and playing D against the team they will face today is another world my friend. Put your seat belt on the train is coming to Elmsford.
@ hsbbfan when ever they play just for you i hope all the bigger schools are not that bad littl Hamilton is beating up on so all the girls can sit. I think you are trying to take the focus off other teams. Ossining beat Harrison real bad by 50, no complaints; Irvington beat Woodlands by 50, no complaints; Haldane by 70 over Pawling, no complaints…i surely didnt see you on here complaining…us bloggers, we aint complaining when other teams do it and leave players in the game…so what is really up?
@ hsbbfan, Hamilton is short staffed because they happen to be a small school and the information i got from sources, is that, they started off with 9 girls, 1 quit and 2 decided to play at the last minute and not cleared to play just yet that will take their roster to 10 girls, which looks like the coach need real bad so he can give players more rest.
