Both Phil and I will be out of the office tomorrow, so scores will not be as updated as usual. Worst case scenario, we will post them very late at night (11 p.m. or later) or first-thing tomorrow morning.
We have decided to go with Scarsdale at New Rochelle for our “Game of the Night” tomorrow, as both teams are enjoying pretty successful seasons. The Raiders (8-1) have lost only to Rockland powerhouse Pearl River (7-1), while the Huguenots (9-1) are riding a nine-game win streak since their season-opening loss to Irvington (9-1) on Dec. 4.
It is unknown whether or not New Ro’s junior guard Amirror Dixon (pictured right) will play or not, as she has been out with a knee injury for the last three weeks or so.
In the spirit of competition, both Phil and I are going to go head-to-head on our “Game of the Night” predictions each night and track those records as well. Should we predict the same winner, whoever predicted the closest score will be credited with the win for the night. Whoever has the worst record at the end of the season buys dinner.
PHIL SEZ: Now, Phil seems to think his alma-mater is going to “run roughshod” over Scarsdale, predicting that the Huguenots will win in a low-scoring contest, 54-43.
MIKE SEZ: However, I’m a more analytical person. While both teams allow about the same amount of points per game (41.3 by Scarsdale, 44.2 by New Ro), the Raiders have a significantly better scoring team, averaging just shy of 10 points more per game than the Huguenots (65.2-55.3).
New Ro has the home court advantage and hot streak in its favor, but I think Scarsdale’s offense (including Shelby Zucker, pictured right) will be too much for them to handle. I say the Raiders win it, 62-53.
