As is with most Saturday’s, the day will be relatively light, but we will have some live coverage for you. Phil Terrigno will be stopping by the Rye at Rye Country Day game for a feature he will be writing on RCDS. Follow Phil on Twitter at @PhilTerrigno for updates.
In other news, Ossining senior Saniya Chong will continue her quest to become the greatest scorer in section history when her and the Pride host Spring Ford of Pennsylvania. Chong enters the game 70 points shy of the all-time mark (2,662 points) set by Karen O’Connor in the mid-1980s.
I doubt you’ve been tracking, but Phil Terrigno and I are having quite the week in terms of predictions. Since Tuesday, we have posted (what I like to think is) an impressive 45-8 record, just shy of 85 percent correct picks. Check out our numbers over the course of the week:
Monday, Jan. 28: No games (Snow)
Tuesday, Jan. 29: 9-4
Wednesday. Jan. 30: 8-2
Thursday, Jan. 31: 14-1
Friday, Feb. 1: 14-1
Saturday, Feb. 2: TBD
In fact, since Jan. 21, we are picking just over 81 percent winners, with an 70-16 record. Will the hot streak continue? We’ll find out…

I thought OSS game was 12:30 has it been changed?
Has OSS game been changed I thought it was 12:30?
Today’s Ossining game is at 12 pm, NOT 4:30
Just confirmed game is 12:00 @ OSS
25-24 Ossining end of 1, they were down by as many as 8 at one point.
39-34 Oss at half
57-55 Spring Ford end of 3. Very sloppy game
Ossining loses to Spring Ford 81-65. Had no answer for their bigs and too many shooters. Ossining also played extremely sloppy. Still can’t hit the 3 and their press was their own worst enemy. Coach Ricci failed to adjust.
Agree Colonial- Needed to distribute the ball better- and had too many turnovers- defense was off-
While this year’s Ossining Team still is the odds on favorite to win, not only the Section 1 Class AA Championship, but the State Class AA Championship this year, they are “not” on the same playing level as last year’s Cicero North Syracuse team. Trying to force the offense too much during closely contested games has been a weakness of this year’s squad and as Ossining progresses into State Regional, State Final Four and if they are fortunate enough to win the State, the Federation level, their opponents will try to exploit this weakness.
Hopefully Coach Ricci will tell his team to slow it down, stop chucking up 3 pointers and move the ball around effectively vs. trying to force the play. If they can play under control, they are as dangerous a team as any in the state. If not, they might even lose against Irvington at the end of the regular season.
Hallie, I’m taking no side in this but i”m thinkin’ some hate mail is about to come your way. (btw, I think the Pride will win the NYS AA Championship this year)
I have to give credit to Spring Ford though, they’re a very good team. That big girl killed us, she wasn’t all that great of a player (Lexi Martins is by far better imo) but she was able to use her length to her advantage. They also had a lot of girls who could shoot. They frustrated the heck out of Saniya by forcing turnovers and triple teaming. It was just a bad game all around for Ossining, they were flat for a good part of it. They played well in spurts but not consistent enough.
Hallie, what’s your obsession with last year’s Cicero team? What happened last year happened last year. Is Cicero the same team since Brianna Stewart graduated last year? Nope
This year is not last year, Ossining isn’t the same team this year as they were last year either.
Tough loss but lick your wounds and move on to the next game.
Plain and simple Ossining got beat by a better team today. Well coached and very deep. They took away Saniya’s drive and dish and that was the difference today. Ossining had their moments today but could not sustain it for more than a quarter. They looked tired at the outset, the gym was very hot and they were beaten at their own game…running the floor. Gotta pick up the pieces and go on from here.
Colonial – That is exactly how everyone in the state are looking at Ossining. Ossining came into this season the prohibitive favorite, not only to win the State Class AA Championship, but the Federation Championship as well. Just like Cicero North Syracuse was going into last season. Ossining has the “Lock” State Class AA Player of the Year going into this season (and the #1 recruit for UCONN in Saniya ). Last year, CNS had the “Lock” State Class AA Player of the Year going into last season (and last season’s #1 recruit for UCONN in Breanna Stewart). Despite the loss of Destany Walker to Virginia, Ossining has a much stronger supporting cast going into this season behind Saniya than what Breanna Stewart had last year up at CNS.
So, yes, the comparisions are inevididable. The expectations are very high for Ossining.
I applaud Coach Ricci for going out and playing as tough as a schedule as he has done. I think that everyone would agree 100% that this schedule will definately prepare Ossiniing in their run towards the State Class AA Crown.
I truly believe that Ossining will win it all this year and come back to Ossining with the GOLD.
However, when Ossining comes back to town with the Championships, many in the state will look at this years Ossining team and certainly will compare them to last years CNS team and will say “Who was indeed the better overall team” Why? because the expectations and talent on paper is basically the same going into each respective season.
And next year, many will compare next year’s Ossining’s Team (post Saniya) on the same level as this years’ CNS team (post Breanna) to see how each team responds.
Ossining would of been better served playing Pleasantville or Yonkers. They could have won by 75, Saniya could have broken the scoring record and Coach Ricci could of had a nap and a pedicure. He would have learned nothing about his team but at least he would be well rested.
Despite losing 4 games (all to national powerhouses, SF was ranked #14 in the nation), there’s still nobody in New York State that can beat them. The only team that gave CCN any form of competition last season in NYS was Ossining.
