Anyword on the exceptional senior section 1 game? I know last year the MV coach was key in organizing and pushing it( maybe someone else is doing it,I remember Coach Maher helped out at the door also) nice low key fun atmosphere for the seniors and I enjoyed watching hanlon( wh pl),scoglomiglio(pr), and Jackson( Peekskill) to name a few
CONGRATS TO ALL,A JOB WELL DONE
No Mcgrath from AM?? Wow!! She was surely deserving!
Thats almst the entire Oss squad first team All Section. Not too shabby. Shadeen’s a lock for the next three years.
who picks all section teams?
I agree on McGrath. At least HM
Shadeen should be on the first team, in place of one of her teammates who is on the first team.
McGrath got robbed of HM,think Doherty and decourcey should have been HM,would have putMcMahon of Irvington and chiparelli of dobbs on 1st team..just my .02. Congrats to all the girls
McGrath got robbed.
Dana Rohan averaged ten points a game and she makes first team all section. Doherty avg.11 points and Mcgrath almost 13.
What does an athlete from Yonkers have to do to get recoginized. There is a girls from Saunders High School who has been league MVP 3 straight years, top 10 in scoring, and draws a double team whenever she plays! This young lady deserves to be an all-section player! Something has to be done about this selection process, it’s a joke. You can’t tell me that not 1 athlete in the city of Yonkers is worthy of All-Section Honors. Congrats to all who have been chosen, and shame on the committee for ignoring Yonkers AGAIN!!!!!
How about Amanda Smith????????? 21 pts per game!!!
BB-Fan maybe the fact that Saunders had 1 win out side of the city of Yonkers (Eastchester) hurt her chances? All Section is the top 36 kids in the entire Section. Some leagues are strong and some are weak, Thats why they have All League.
Looks like there were some teams who beat Saunders who did’t have an All Section player either?
Basically it gets back to the coaches who have to petition/ lobby the other coaches to vote for that kid…correct me if I’m wrong but don’t think all the coaches go to the meeting to pick the girls, the only one required to go is the league rep( one coach out of that league). Every year there are girls that are left off, girls that got it when there numbers weren’t worthy but unfortunately it’s the system we have..once again congrats to the girls….ANY WORD on senior exceptional game?
I’ll talk to coach Maher tonight before her game about exactly who picks the all-section team and if/when there is an exceptional senior game.
All Section – Can’t help whose on the schedule, but if you look at the numbers of the non-league games – New Rochelle(23pts) Carmel(24pts) Sacred Heart(18pts) Ursiline (22 pts) ........ She held her own with the best of them. Enough said!!
Thanks Mike – It’s just that alot of people feel that Yonkers Athletes are not getting a fair shake when it comes to any elite players – Again congrats to all the great players!!!
All Section, how do you explain Petry from Clarkstown making, her team won four games and she made all section.
I guess there are a lot of upset family members out there today after the list was put out.
I’ve seen Amanda Smith play. And I agree, she deserved to be an all-section player. (And I’m no fan of Saunders). Unfortuantely Amanda is a senior and won’t get another shot at it. Lucy Bancone, a sophomore carried Byram Hills on her back all season – maybe next year for her. Shaina Davner, a Junior from Edgemont and Dani Moretti the freshman from Pelham are also deserving. And I’m sure there are some girls who were left off the list completely, but the system isn’t perfect and they can’t pick everyone. Girls just have to really work at their game and make bigger impacts.
Congrats to all the girls.
To North County Shadeen really stepped up & was/is a huge asset to her team but her teammates who made the all section team all deserve to be there. As Hsbbfan said Shadeen will be a lock in for the next 3 years
Cant’t believe League B from conf.1 did not get one girl all section , while North Rock gets 2 girls. and League B for Conf 3 gets 8 girls.
League B from Conf 3 had 10 girls not 8 girls
What schools are in league b conference 1?
The All Section selection process is flawed. There is no way it identifies the top 36 players in Section 1. A suggestion may be for each Class to have a 1st team, 2nd team and then no more than 10 honorable mentions. For the smaller schools, a 1st team and honorable mention.
The current set up doesn’t reward the players who put in the time to work on their game to be the best in their league. A kid who lives in a Class B or C school district shouldn’t be penalized, especially if they are putting in the hard work.
It should also be required for the athlete to be in HS because not every school in Section 1 allows students to play up.
#holla. DeCourcey is very deserving of All-Section. Stats don’t always reflect a players importance to a team. Missy Scogs was high scorer for the PR team with 12pts ave an DeCourcey was right behind with 10pt ave. Both players are completey unselfish an put team first which was a big reason for PR success. NR had 3 players on the list who ave double digit scoring but didn’t have the same success. Doherty also was very deserving of ALL-Section As she had a great season an was a big factor in Albertus success this year. The coaches of Rockland have seen both girls an appreciate there style of play an the importance they were to there team success
@CHSAA
so should the best players be picked or not? Espinoza-Hunter should be penalized because she’s in middle school? Doesn’t she put in hard work and deserve to be recognized? I was at the County Center all week, and if we are going to be honest, Shadeen Samuels of Ossining is one of the top 36 players as well. Should she be penalized because she’s a freshman so a senior who is less deserving can feel good about themselves?
If you were to look at the list again, there are a lot of Class B and Class C players. The fact is, there are many more Class AA and Class A schools than the lower classes. Should students from large schools be penalized because small schools feel under-represented when there are far fewer small schools?
We all need to remember this is not about our kid. Only 36 can be recognized and I’m sure whatever committee makes the decision agonized over their choices. If we would just celebrate the accomplishments of the girls (because that is what this should be about) this would not be an issue.
There were actually more all section players from Class B than Class A and Class A has significantly more teams than the other classes.
@middle school and hey chsaa,
Points well taken. Maybe the problem lies with how they state all section selections are considered the “top players in the section”. Arguably, there are some players listed in All Section that when you look at individual talent vs talent of others listed in the HM or some not selected, it doesn’t match up.
Breaking it down to a 1st team, 2nd team (and maybe a third team) by Class, the chances of recognizing “the top players” is greater. A top player should be able to standout on any team…not just with their team. Once again, arguably, there are some players listed in the All Section list that wouldn’t do as well with another team, such players are more qualified for the HM list, not top player.
Regarding recognizing the 8th graders….think about other 8th graders who may be of equal talent or better but are unable to play up…just think the process should be fair and by only selecting athletes enrolled in HS does that. Not taking away anything from her talent at all…she will be recognized going forward and has the potential for a great HS career.
Just offering an opinion, not looking for points. Either way, congrats to all who were recognized.
awards are not individual if they are given by team success as well. Yes some of the them are truly top wherever they would play. Others placed on another team with not such a great record wouldn’t have been on this list. Example put Gervacio from Ossining on Panas and put Sudol on Ossining, same result? Same scenario with a couple from Irvington and other more successful programs. Nice to have recognition but not necessarily a great judge, where a athlete lives especially in weaker programs is held against them.
How are the players selected? Haugh-Clarkstown South and McGrath-Albertus not included? Both had exceptional seasons and were key in the success of their respective teams. Obviously stats, talent and overall contribution during the season didn’t come into play. Voters – what season were you watching? Shame on you.
Really hope the league reps get it right for their All Section picks.

C
are you able to tell us player of the league for each league or does that not come out until later?
Haugh got all section HM…as many sources have agreed on here McGrath of AM was robbed
Haugh and McGrath should have received All Section hands down. Both were robbed!
If you want to blame someone, look at your coaches, they are the ones who picked. Cant’ see how NR got two all sections , their season did not warrant 2 picks
LarryBird u r absolutely correct. However it doesn’t help the North Rockland guy is in charge. Makes u wonder
Can you explain how all league and AL mentions are awarded? Does that come from the high school coach to put a name down?
@Larry Bird NR coach is the league rep and attends the selection meeting..should have switched Bertolino or Rivera with Haugh of Cl. South..she def was more of a complete gamer and more important to her team…happens every year that a undeserving girl gets recognized while a deserving girl( huge example in Madison McGrath of Albertus) who doesn’t..can’t do a thing till the selection process is changed..congrats to the section 1 teams still going on
Why should the season your team had have anything to do with the selection process.
I followed alot of games this year and I noticed that Monteleone from Haldane wasent listed. Is it becase there a small school or is it because there from putnam county
Do all the coaches attend and do they all get 1 vote? can someone explain.
my guess is because class C probably only got 3 chits and hamilton got them all
