UPDATE (11:15 a.m.): With the heavy snowfall that has hit our area, many have wondered (myself included) if tonight’s Class B regional championship game would be cancelled or not.
Irvington classes are cancelled, that I know for sure, but nothing from the Southampton Public Schools site tells me that classes are not in session, so I assume they are on as scheduled.
I called the Hofstra University athletic department just prior to 11:00 a.m. to see if the game was still on. The assistant for athletic director Jeffrey A. Hathaway answered, saying that the staff was out for the time being.
She was unsure whether or not the game would still be played as scheduled. She said she would make a call, then call me back. I will keep you all updated on the final word.
P.S. I know what may be out there on the Internet in terms of information, but I would rather hear confirmation from a school official before making the call on whether or not the game is still on. Until I hear anything saying the game is off, I am under the assumption that the game is still on as scheduled.
UPDATE (11:48 a.m.): Still no word back from the Hofstra athletic department, but I did receive a tweet from Chuck Martins (likely related to Irvington star Lexi Martins) saying that the game is still on and was confirmed by Irvington coach Gina Maher. I’d still need whatever WiFi code the school has to file my story, but it looks like the game is in fact still on. A friend in the Long Island area said that the weather is fine there, the roads are clear, and that there’s barely snow on the ground. To those making the trip, safe travels, and I’ll see you there. I’ll update this post if I hear of anything new.
UPDATE (12:48 p.m.): Just got off the phone with Irvington coach Gina Maher, who said she just faxed over a roster. As of right now, the game is still on! If anything changes between now and 2:30 p.m. (approximately when I’ll be hitting the road), I will post it here. If I hear anything while on the road, I’ll see if Phil can update the post. Again, safe travels to all making the trip!
