Sinking seven 3-pointers is one helpful way to win a high school basketball game. Holding your opponents to two points in a quarter is also helpful.
Westlake’s Katie Cullen and Faith Lovett each sank three shots from beyond the arc to propel the Wildcats to a 47-33 win over Valhalla on Friday.
Cullen finished with a game-high 12 points, while Lovett matched teammates Natalie Alfieri and Lauren Holzer with nine points apiece. Rachele Beckley led the Vikings with eight points.
A relatively close contest in every other quarter, Westlake outscored Valhalla 13-2 in the second quarter to provide a cushion the rest of the way.
Best of the rest: Pleasantville’s Ann Marie DiCarlo scored 20 points in a 50-31 win over Port Chester. … Ossining’s Abby Squirrell had 15 points, 11 steals, seven rebounds and five assists in a 60-30 win over Mount Dora (Fla.) in the KSA Sand Jam tournament in the Bahamas. … Lakeland’s Nikki Kardias scored 15 points in a 51-36 win over Panas in the opening round of the Hornets’ Carolyn Conroy tournament. … Byram Hills’ Ashley Polera scored 18 points in a 58-32 win over Yonkers in the opening round of the Bobcats’ tournament.
