Irvington took care of business in a 54-34 win against visiting White Plains on Monday.
After winning the Class B state championship last season, the Bulldogs have started this one by winning their first three games.
Although Irvington recorded its most convincing victory so far, coach Gina Maher believes the team has much room for improvement.
The Bulldogs lost last season stars — Lexi Martins (now at Lehigh), Brittni Lai (Marist) and Ryan McMahon — to graduation. No longer supported by that trio, Irvington is looking for new stars to emerge.
“We just hope we can get better with every game,” Maher said. “I think the beauty of this year’s team is that we have more balance than a year ago. … Any given night, a different player can lead the team to victory.”
Laurilyn Gelardi stepped up for Irvington against White Plains with 17 points. Teammate Lauren Chafizadeh added 14 points.
Kaleigh D’Arcy led the Tigers with 10.
“The most that we can take from this game is a little confidence, but there is a lot to improve,” Maher said. “It’s too early in the season to get too ahead of ourselves, and there are a lot of good teams out there.”
Best of the rest: Ashley Kaye of Bronxville had 12 points in the Broncos’ 59-12 win over visiting Palisade Prep. … Pelham’s Katie Moskowitz scored 11 points in a 61-25 rout of visiting Lincoln. … Damonae Hargrove had 11 points in Maria Regina’s 78-44 loss to Cardinal Spellman.
