By overwhelming demand, and after consulting with my editors, we have turned off moderation for comments on the LoHud Girls Basketball Blog effective immediately.
This means you can now comment on a post and it will be published right away, just like the old days. For the most part, you have all been playing nicely amongst each other and the criticism has been pretty much within reason. So, consider this my early Christmas gift to you all. (This was the first surprise I was telling you about last night.)
However, and this is a very, very big however, your leash is short. We will turn the moderation of each comment back on if we see anyone using inappropriate language, or verbally attacking players, coaches, other bloggers, or myself (within reason for myself). If that occurs, the moderation will go on, and stay on. I wouldn’t plan on them being turned back off until I’m off the beat, or even after then.
This is a blog that covers high school female athletes — girls that are anywhere between 13 and 18 years old — and I think sometimes, people lose sight of that. There is no reason or excuse for some of the things that I have seen said on here. NOTE: This is to the bloggers who don’t play nice; there is a very good majority of you who are loyal, respectful readers. To you, I thank. You’re the reason this second chance is being given.
I will still be watching the comments section very closely, as will the higher-ups. Comments that are seen on the borderline or leaning over it will be sent a warning notification via e-mail. Anything that is wildly inappropriate could result in immediate action.
Congratulations, you are all now officially on probation.
