Being that this is a basketball blog, you could say this was a… “layup” for New Ro Fan, seeing as how nobody contested him in the first contest quiz. Too bad, all of the answers weren’t even right; meaning someone else could’ve easily stepped in and taken the prize.
New Ro Fan will receive two tickets to next week’s Slam Dunk tournament after answering four of the five quiz questions correctly. For those wondering, no, the bonus answer was not correct, either. To refresh your memory, here were the questions:
LOHUD GIRLS BASKETBALL QUIZ
1. Where did Ossining eighth-grade standout Andra Espinoza-Hunter transfer to?
2. The Rockland County’s all-time leading scorers list features two pair of a teammates. Who are the teammates, what school did they play for, and what year did they graduate?
3. Who had the most career points on Irvington’s roster last season?
4. Last year, Peekskill and Pelham became just the second and third outbracket teams to ever make the County Center. Who was the other? (Name the year, as well)
5. Pearl River coach Lorraine Moylan retired with the most wins in Rockland County. How many did she finish with?
BONUS: What was so unique about Hamilton’s section-championship victory over Keio? (NOTE: I’m looking for a specific answer.)
Here were New Ro Fans answers, along with the correct answers (remember, all of the answers could’ve been found somewhere on this blog. I’ve included the links to where you could’ve found each answer):
1) Blair Academy
(Correct: The sharp-shooting guard transfered to the New Jersey school, which used to be coached by current Hackley head coach Sue Altman. That answer could’ve been found here.)
2) Jenzen and Kahn, Nanuet, Betsy and Kelly McManus Pearl River
(Correct: He did not list the graduated years, but since nobody else answered, who cares? K.C. Jentzen and Lauren Kahn graduated Nanuet in 2010, and the McManus’ graduated Pearl River in 2002. Those answers could’ve been found here.)
3) Lexi Martins
(Incorrect: This was the trick question of the bunch. I was careful to word this properly. Lexi Martins is the highest scorer in Irvington history, with 1,859 points; but the question asked, “Who has the most career points on the roster?” That would be guard Brittni Lai, who scored 1,889 points between her four years with the Bulldogs and one year with Edgemont. Those answers could’ve been found here.)
4) New Rochelle – 2011
(Correct: I would’ve been stunned if “New Ro” Fan didn’t get this one. I’m sure he knew that off-hand, but the answer could’ve been found here.)
(Correct: The two-time state champion and Rockland’s winningest coach — male or female — posted a 536-140 record in three decades at the helm of a varsity team. That answer could’ve been found here.)
Bonus: Hamilton’s first girls basketball sectional title since 1988.
(Incorrect: While this is a true statement, the answer I was looking for was that all of the scoring in the game was done by two people — Tiffany Corselli and Jasmine Robinson. It’s unusual that just two people do all of the scoring, let alone in a section final. Again, nobody else answered, so who cares? The game story to that game can be found here.)
Hopefully more people partake in the second quiz, which is currently up. All guesses must be in by 7 p.m. Good luck to all, and congrats New Ro Fan; we’ll be in touch. (And yes, you can win again.)
