As you’ll see, we don’t have a whole heck of a lot on the schedule. But, as you probably noticed, there’s plenty to read to keep you busy during any down time you may have.
Last night’s results are up, as well as my game story on Peekskill-Hackley and a feature on Con Ed winner Stefanie Frolo of Hackley. So, like I said, plenty of blog chow for you to chew on with a light schedule. I’m missing some teams from the tournaments, so if you know them, please let me know and I’ll add them.
Even on off days, I like to usually go to a nearby game or at the minimum still tweet out results that I get throughout the night. Today is not one of those days. In one of the rare days out of the year, I will be looking at my phone as little as possible, as I will be with my family for our annual Christmas gathering. As much as I love my job and sports, family always comes first; I’m sure most of you understand.
If, for whatever reason I find some time to check for scores, I’ll tweet them out so you see them along the right side of the blog; but I really don’t like being on my phone with family. Nancy Haggerty will be in the office tonight, so hopefully she’ll keep me posted if anything outrageous happens.
Since I’ll be as far away from a computer as possible, I will be drawing my random Twitter follower before I leave tomorrow, so it will likely be picked around noon-ish. My first winner, Michael Surovich (if you’re reading this), has not claimed his tickets for the Slam Dunk Tournament yet, so I’ll reach out to him in the morning. Our second winner was actually a basketball player — injured Kennedy standout Megan Weidenheimer. The Twitter name through me, but when I found out who it was, I’m glad it was a basketball fan — and a player, on top of it.
As for the quiz contests, congratulations to New Ro Fan for winning the first quiz contest. (You can read about his win, as well as see the winning answers on the blog, as well; there’s a post up about it.) The second quiz was posted at 7 p.m. on Friday and will close at 7 p.m. Saturday, when the final quiz is posted.
As of 1:30 a.m., nobody has even attempted to answer a question, so if you answer even one question right, you’re in the lead. Remember, these are for two free tickets to the Slam Dunk Tournament just for answering a couple of questions. Hopefully at least one person attempts; more than one would be great.
Anyway, below is the complete schedule for Saturday, along with my predictions. If the Tappan Zee Tip-off is anything like it was on Friday, then the finals round is going to be insane. I could see either team winning either game.
Pelham’s second half against Tappan Zee was “abysmal” as Coach Pitrulle put it, being outscored 31-16 to end the game. If the Pelicans play like they did in the second half on Friday again, Hackley will trounce them. If they play like the first half (led Tappan Zee 32-31), it will be a great game.
In the championship, it’s much of the same. Peekskill’s defense was horrendous in the first quarter on Friday; Hackley was picking them apart, but couldn’t finish on most opportunities. The Hornets held the lead most of the game before the reigning Class A section champs turned it on in the fourth quarter. If Peekskill plays like Friday’s first half, the first quarter, in particular, Tappan Zee could win by about 15 points. I think it will ultimately be a four-point game either way. I have the Dutchies riding the momentum of the second half and the home-court advantage. Both should be exceptional games if you’re around.
