When a team faces hardship and accumulates losses, the only cure to right the wrongs is a win.
For Brewster, that was exactly what coach Mike Castaldo asked of his girls in their game against visiting Poughkeepsie on Monday afternoon.
The Bears granted his wish with a 79-36 rout to go off into the holiday break.
“Today’s game we came out and pressured them to get a lot of turnovers and we made our shots,” Castaldo said.
“I told them before the game we needed the win and they responded nicely.”
The Bears (3-3) lost three of their last four games and desperately wanted to go into the break on a positive note. Tara D’Ottavio had a game-high 22 points. Paige Montague added 17.
Brewster’s first game back from the holiday break is against a tough Mahopac squad led by standout Mairead Hynes.
With momentum on its side, Castaldo hopes his team keeps up its brilliant play as the Bears start their league schedule in January.
“That’s not where I want us to be right now,” said Castaldo of the team’s .500 record. “We have to come out after the break playing hard, breaking the press, limiting turnovers and knocking down shots.
“We play in a tough league and we have to play well to be successful.”
