Carmel hadn’t played the toughest schedule this year but the Rams were still in search of a quality win.
On Saturday, they got it.
Led by junior Caitlyn Murphy’s 21-point performance, the Rams (3-5) upended Blind Brook — last year’s Class B section runner-up, 53-40.
Carmel held the Trojans to just three points in the first quarter, which greatly aided in the win.
Despite its five losses this season, Carmel has been in all but one game against Section 1 opponents, the odd game being a 54-36 loss to Arlington last Saturday.
The Rams are on the upswing of a rebuilding program, with Murphy leading a team that features three other returning juniors on varsity.
Considering that Carmel has now already surpassed last season’s win total (2-16), many would already view this season as a success.
Wherever the Rams land this year, expect the trend to be on the rise again next season.
