Briarcliff’s Carly Fanelli has continued to amaze both Bears fans and foes alike since joining the varsity program this season.
Her performance in Saturday’s 52-51 win at Blind Brook was just another reason why.
The freshman sank a game-tying 3-pointer with 15.6 seconds left, then sank the go-ahead free throws in the final seconds to put the Bears up. Blind Brook had a chance to tie with eight-tenths of a second left, shooting two free throws. The Trojans made the first, then missed the second after a Briarcliff timeout.
Fanelli finished with 24 points before fouling out on the play that sent Blind Brook to the line in the final second. With Grace Orr already also having fouled out, Bears coach Don Hamlin said he “didn’t want to think about overtime without them.”
Briarcliff (10-8) defeated Blind Brook on Friday as well. Fanelli also had 24 points in that win.
